Rian Johnson to Helm New Star Wars Trilogy!

We have been wondering what the future of Star Wars holds after this latest trilogy wraps up, and apparently it involves Rian Johnson and no Skywalkers! StarWars.com has just announced that Rian Johnson will be helming a new Star Wars trilogy focusing on characters not yet explored in the Star Wars universe.

Lucasfilm is excited to announce that Johnson will create a brand-new Star Wars trilogy, the first of which he is also set to write and direct, with longtime collaborator Ram Bergman onboard to produce.

As writer-director of The Last Jedi, Johnson conceived and realized a powerful film of which Lucasfilm and Disney are immensely proud. In shepherding this new trilogy, which is separate from the episodic Skywalker saga, Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.

“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

“We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi,” Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement. “Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.”

So what could this mean? We might get a hint of something when we actually get to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Obviously Johnson left quite the impression on Kennedy and the gang. Perhaps it will be based on ideas that might have been left on the cutting room floor, or perhaps it could be based on something entirely new that he has dreamed up.

It might be interesting to separate this from the Force, and go in a totally different direction. What are you looking for in a Skywalker-less Star Wars trilogy? Leave your thoughts in the appropriate places!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Official Runtime Revealed!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

UPDATED with correct time!

As we edge ever closer to the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, news keeps coming out about the highly anticipated film. Today the British Board of Film Classification just announced that the Star Wars: The Last Jedi official runtime is approximately 151 minutes and 38 seconds long. For those that need help with the math (which apparently I do), that is 2 hours and 51 31 minutes.

The runtime means that this will be the longest film out of all the Star Wars movies released. For comparison, Star Wars: The Force Awakens came in at 135 minutes, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was 133 minutes. The closest to The Last Jedi is Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, which sits at 140 minutes.

It sounds like we will be sitting in the theater for awhile, but I am sure it will be well worth it. Just remember not to drink too much, so that you will be able to last throughout the whole film.
