One of the only things that sort of bugged me about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, was the marketing campaign.  Not that it wasn’t a great bit of marketing, but more so that it was deceptive.  For instance scenes shown in trailers that weren’t in the movie, and the inclusion of Forest Whitaker’s character Saw Gerrera, even though he only had a small part in the film.

According to a recent interview over at Empire Online, Saw Gerrera’s role in the Star Wars universe is about to get larger.  The magazine sat down with Kathleen Kennedy and the cast of Rogue One to talk about the film, but a little nugget of information at the very end of the article leaves the door open for more Saw Gerrera.

Kennedy had this to say about the character’s future at Lucasfilm:

To be honest, we originally thought we were going to develop Saw into something much larger, but we couldn’t accommodate it. So he is not in the movie as much as we would like to have him in the movie, which creates the opportunity to explore his character even further in our future development.

Forest Whitaker also seems to know a little more than he is letting on as well:

I’m curious about what else they’re about to do. Because they seem to really like the character, which is great!

We already know that Saw will be making a future appearance when Star Wars Rebels season 3 returns in January, but is this what she was referring to? Or are there bigger plans in place?  I guess only time will tell…
