While not a lot is known about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, tidbits of information have been leaking here and there… Last month during the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, the studio unveiled a trailer exclusively for those in room for the upcoming streamer.
The series was created by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) and Christopher Ford (Chaos Walking) and follows a group of kids who get lost in the Star Wars galaxy. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is heavily inspired by eighties Amblin movies such as The Goonies, and more recently Stranger Things. Kathleen Kennedy and her many years of experience working alongside Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment was approached by the series co-creator Jon Watts and supported the show wholeheartedly.
While the select few fans in attendance at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 did see the trailer, no one else has (unless you count the leaked stuff circulating the Internet.) Because of this leak, we have some new information as to casting in the show.
Two characters who featured prominently throughout the trailer seem to be the parents of the children leading the series, with both parents actively seeking help and searching for their missing children who decided to embark on an adventure without informing their parents. Currently we don’t know the name of the characters, we don’t even know the names of the leading characters either, but we did get an ID on who are playing the parents. The father of the Skeleton Crew children is played by Tunde Adebimpe, who is probably best known for starring in projects such as Marriage Story, Perry Mason, and Spider-Man: Homecoming, which was directed by Skeleton Crew co-creator Jon Watts. The mother is played by Kerry Condon, who recently received an Academy Award Nomination for her role in The Banshees of Inisherin, she’s also starred in projects such as Better Call Saul, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, Ray Donovan and was also the voice of Friday in various Marvel Studio films including Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The trailer has yet to make an official public release, but we do know that Lucasfilm has said on more than one occasion that the series would debut in 2023. From all educated guesses, it would seem to be a late December 2023 time frame.
Even so, it is good to continue to get more information about this series, and the possibilities of what is to come in the Star Wars Universe. Remember, this isn’t official news yet, so take everything with a grain of salt… But probably not as much salt as you would normally take it with…
