Build Your Own LEGO Star Wars Lightsaber: Free Store Event Coming March 2026

A brick-built LEGO Star Wars Lightsaber model with a glowing blue blade against a starry space background.

Star Wars fans, it is time to ready your bricks. The LEGO Group has officially announced a brand-new “Make and Take” building event that is sure to excite Padawans and Jedi Masters alike. Coming this March, participants will have the exclusive opportunity to build their very own LEGO Star Wars Lightsaber and take it home for free.

If you are looking to add a unique piece to your collection without spending a single credit, here is everything you need to know about the upcoming LEGO Star Wars Lightsaber event.

Event Dates and Locations

The primary event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at participating LEGO Stores across the United States.

However, fans in New Jersey and Utah should take note of a slight schedule shift. The LEGO Store at Garden State in Paramus, NJ, and the LEGO Store at University Place in Orem, UT, will host their builds a day early on Saturday, March 7, 2026, during the same 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM window.

What to Expect at the LEGO Star Wars Lightsaber Event

“Make and Take” events are a beloved tradition for the LEGO community. During these sessions, the store provides all the necessary elements and instructions to create a specific mini-model. Once the build is complete, you get to keep it!

For this specific event, the model is a brick-built Star Wars Lightsaber. While LEGO has released high-end hilt sets in the past (often as GWP, Gift With Purchase, items for Ultimate Collector Series sets), this event offers a unique, simplified version accessible to younger builders and casual fans.

Important Guidelines and Restrictions

Because of the high demand for Star Wars-themed LEGO builds, there are several specific rules in place to ensure as many people as possible can participate:

  • Age Requirement: This event is specifically intended for participants aged 10 years and older.
  • First-Come, First-Served: Quantities are limited. LEGO Stores typically receive a set amount of stock for these events, and once the bricks are gone, the event ends. It is highly recommended to arrive early.
  • One Per Guest: To keep things fair, the build is limited to one LEGO Star Wars Lightsaber per person.
  • Not for Sale: These models are exclusive to the event and cannot be purchased separately in-store or online.

Why Star Wars Fans Won’t Want to Miss This

LEGO Star Wars remains one of the most popular themes in the world, and any “free” collectible is a major draw for the community. Whether you are a dedicated collector or a parent looking for a fun weekend activity, this event provides a hands-on way to celebrate the galaxy far, far away.

The lightsaber is the most iconic weapon in cinematic history, and having a custom-built version sitting on your desk or shelf is a great way to show off your fandom. Plus, these event-exclusive builds often become interesting conversation pieces for fans who enjoy tracking the history of promotional LEGO items.

How to Prepare

Before heading out on March 8th (or March 7th for NJ and UT residents), we recommend visiting the official LEGO Store locator on their website. Not every single LEGO outlet participates in every “Make and Take” event, so checking your local store’s specific event page is the best way to confirm they will have the lightsaber kits in stock.

Mark your calendars and may the Force (and the bricks) be with you!

Roger Christian Talks George Lucas and Building the Original Lightsaber

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… an up and coming director George Lucas and a ragtag crew set out to make a space fantasy movie to hopefully entertain and make its money back… Well we all know how that turned out. The movie turned out to be the biggest movie in cinema history (at the time), and made household names out of George Lucas and the cast. Since then, fans love to find even the smallest nuggets of new information about the film.

Today, Academy Award Winner Roger Christian sat down with TheGeeknd to talk about working with George Lucas and building iconic props for Star Wars: A New Hope including Luke Skywalker’s famous lightsaber, and his binoculars. The video is close to twenty minutes, but is a great watch for a look back at one of the people that has shaped pop culture in a way that still resonates today.

New Cal Kestis Lightsaber Hilt Coming on Star Wars Day!

If you are a collector of lightsaber hilts, then you are in for a treat! ShopDisney has announced a brand new Cal Kestis lightsaber hilt, based on the look from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Last year saw our first version of this lightsaber released at the parks, but it was definitely based on the first game. You can tell this one is from the sequel with a sleeker finish than the first.

Of course Disney has not released pricing on this one yet, but you should probably expect to pay around the same price as other lightsaber hilts you can find in Dok Ondar’s store at Galaxy’s Edge.

You can purchase the new hilt on May 4th at 8am PT / 11am ET for Star Wars Day.

New Haslab – Star Wars The Black Series Reva (The Third Sister) Force FX Elite Lightsaber

Hasbro has released their latest HasLab project, the Star Wars The Black Series Reva (The Third Sister) Force FX Elite Lightsaber from Obi-Wan Kenobi. While I am not a big fan of this, and judging from social media, not many are… I am sure some people will love this one and be interested in backing it. Check out all the details below!

The Most Cutting-Edge Star Wars HasLab Project Yet …

Star Wars fans, get ready: The Black Series is introducing a HasLab project like no other!

You’ve seen how we’ve brought iconic Star Wars scenes to life with detailed LED Force FX Elite sabers. But this HasLab project is bringing fans something entirely new: The Black Series’ first integrated double-bladed Force FX Elite LIGHTSABER™. This roleplay item comes with the features you love—including progressive ignition, blaster deflect, battle clash effect, and more. With the coordinated attack technology in the hilt and both blades installed, LED animation and effect sequences play out across the entire 6.5 feet lightsaber! Battle the Jedi™ with both blades at play or just one—you’re in control.

This crowdfunded project will run from May 27th 2022 7:30PM ET to July 11th 11:59PM ET. If successful, the project will begin shipping Fall 2023. If you would like to secure yours, visit HasbroPulse.com today!

Cal Kestis Legacy Saber Coming to Disney Parks!

A brand new legacy lightsaber is about to hit Disney World and Disney Land at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. If you aren’t familiar with legacy lightsabers, they are really just authentic replicas of the movie lightsabers, that allow you to add the FX blade to it.

You’ll be able to add Cal Kestis’ Legacy Lightsaber Hilt inspired by STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order to your collection when it arrives at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge this Friday!

Cameron Monaghan, the actor who plays Cal Kestis in the critically acclaimed Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order video game, recently journeyed to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Resort and got the full Star Wars experience while checking out the Cal Kestis legacy lightsaber hilt. You can add this legacy lightsaber hilt to your personal collection when it arrives at Dok-Ondar’s on March 25, 2022, only at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort!

Those familiar with Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order will recognize the broken end design since Cal Kestis acquires the lightsaber after the weapon is damaged and is only capable of emitting a single blade. When you purchase this distinct lightsaber hilt, it comes with a dual lightsaber adapter, so you can recreate the original double-bladed design reminiscent of when the lightsaber was owned by Cal’s Master, Jaro Tapal, when you purchase a second hilt.

I just came back from Disney World and picked up a Legacy lightsaber, but I really wish this was one of the options to choose from two weeks ago! Will you be picking this one up for your collection? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below!

A Secret Shop to Build Lightsabers will be Found at Galaxy’s Edge!

Luke Skywalker's Original Lightsaber

It’s been a huge week for Disney and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. It seems as if the announcements have been non stop all week long, and here is another one you can add to the list.

Cinema Blend is reporting that visitors to Batuu will have the opportunity to build their very own custom lightsaber in a secret shop. Since The First Order and The Resistance both have a flag stamped on the planet of Batuu, some things must be done in secret. The Resistance would definitely not want citizens to be equipping themselves with one of the most dangerous weapons in the galaxy. That is why at Savi & Son Salvage, you can secretly build the weapon of a Jedi. (You have to signup for a build session in advance for the opportunity).

A finished hilt here is going to run you somewhere around $109 and if you want to add a blade, then also add $50 to the price tag. On the plus side, however, these things will apparently be the real deal, well constructed pieces you get to mix and match to create your own custom device, likely making them worth the price for the serious Star Wars fan.

About Walt Disney World:

At Walt Disney World, you’ve got a whole fantastic world to celebrate in! With four spectacular theme parks and two water parks plus the most amazing shopping, dining and recreation magic imaginable, it’s no wonder all of life’s special moments are made even more enjoyable when you celebrate at Walt Disney World.

Disney Working on Lightsaber that Extends and Retracts and Film Accurate

Disney's New Lightsaber Patent

So what exactly is the Mouse up to right now? Thanks to WDWinfo.com, we have an idea. The website found some new patent information that shows Disney’s design for a film accurate extending and retracting lightsaber. Published today by Disney Enterprises, Inc., “Sword Device with Retractable, Internally Illuminated Blade” outlines a lightsaber design which allows the “energy blade” to shoot forth and retract in a way that properly mimics the iconic weapon’s use in the Star Wars franchise.

A brief bit of information from the patent includes…

Briefly, the inventors recognized that there was a need for a new special effects device that can be used as a theatrical prop, toy, or collector’s item that effectively simulates fictional energy swords including the lightsabers found in many popular films. Particularly, the special effects device (or energy sword, lightsaber prop, or the like) is specially configured to provide an extendable and retractable energy blade that appears to emanate from a handheld hilt due to a lighting effect that appears to provide bright hilt-based lighting.

Disney's New Lightsaber Patent
Disney’s New Lightsaber Patent

Basically the design is based around the idea of tape measures, only much more durable than a tape measure. The lightsaber includes two spools of tape that when extended, join together to make a more durable blade. The opening of the hilt will basically “zip” the two tapes together. The “tape” (for lack of a better term), will have LED’s on the tape, giving it the color of the blade intended for the hilt.

The patent doesn’t mention anything about audio, but I am sure that if they can make this happen, an embedded speaker and a few audio sounds wouldn’t be too far fetched.

Remember that just because a patent exists, doesn’t mean that this device will ever see the light of day. It’s just that the Disney think-tank is always thinking about bigger and better ways of doing things, so why not patent along the way.

The Reason for the Color of Luke’s Lightsaber at the End of ‘The Last Jedi’

Luke Skywalker's Original Lightsaber

We are entering SPOILER territory here folks. If you haven’t seen Star Wars: The Last Jedi, then look away!

We have all been wondering exactly why Luke chose to manifest himself on Crait with Anakin’s blue lightsaber in his final duel with Kylo Ren. Heck we have even speculated on our Podcast here before. Now though, Rian Johnson has spilled the beans to IGN, given us the answer as to the reason for Luke having Anakin’s lightsaber in his hands again.

“[Luke] is basically tailoring this projection to have maximum effect on Kylo,” Johnson explained. “He knows that Kylo’s Achilles heel is his rage, and so that’s why he kind of makes himself look younger, the way Kylo would’ve last seen him in their confrontation at the temple, and that’s why he decided to bring Kylo’s grandfather’s lightsaber down there — the lightsaber that Kylo screamed at Rey, ‘that’s mine, that belongs to me.’” As far as Johnson’s concerned, Luke believes that Anakin’s lightsaber will have a much more visceral impact on the erstwhile Ben Solo than Luke’s own green blade.

But why did Kylo fall for his uncle’s Force Illusion when he saw Anakin’s lightsaber split in half right in front of him? Because, Johnson pointed out, he didn’t actually see it.

“We as an audience saw that… The truth is, we see the lightsaber split in half — Kylo sees a blinding flash of light and is knocked unconscious, and then Rey takes the lightsaber away before he wakes up,” he said. “So if you really want to dig into it and get an explanation, you can say that he doesn’t 100 percent know what happened to the lightsaber.”

Luke Skywalker’s Original Lightsaber is Up for Auction

Luke Skywalker's Original Lightsaber

Thanks to Profiles in History’s “Hollywood Auction 89”, Luke Skywalker’s Original Lightsaber is about to go up for auction to the public. The company is offering a variety of Hollywood props to bidders, but this particular lightsaber auction is meant to honor the sci-fi franchise’s 40th anniversary.

The original lightsaber is being auctioned off by Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz, and the piece has seen on-screen action. Mark Hamill used the prop on set in both Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

If you want to try your luck, then you will want to take out a quick loan, because this will not be cheap. The auction is scheduled to take place between June 26-28 in Los Angeles. As of this writing, the lightsaber is expected to sell for mucho dinero. Current estimates suggest the Luke’s lightsaber will sell for between $150,000 and $250,000. The last time one of Luke Skywalker’s lightsabers went up for sale, the final bid was $240,000.

Luke (or really Anakin’s) lightsaber is not the only Star Wars prop going up for auction later this month. A complete R2-D2 unit used during filming will be put up, as well as original concept art from Tom Jung will also be sold.

Hey, if you can’t afford the real thing, then you might want to give this Star Wars TFA Rey’s Electronic Lightsaber a try.  It might look good in your collection!
