Rey Movie Rumors and More!

Creator: Melinda Sue Gordon | Credit: Melinda Sue Gordon /Lucasfilm Lt Copyright: © 2020 Lucasfilm Ltd. & ™. All Rights Reserved.

Thanks to StarWarsNewsNet, we have a look at a few Star Wars rumors that have surfaced today on insider Daniel Richtman’s Patreon page regarding upcoming productions. Some of this is intriguing as it contradicts previous information that has been officially released from Disney.

First, Richtman says that Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu will not be shot exclusively in LA, as the cast and crew will fly to the UK for an unspecified time. This contradicts last week’s news that the film would receive tax credit from the California Film Commission. Will they be setting up a second unit in the UK, or is this outside of the 92-day window that the production was approved for to get $21M back from the state? Filming is reportedly going to start the middle of June in California.

The other film that Lucasfilm currently has in pre-production is the Daisy Ridley-led New Jedi Order movie, which Daniel says is currently casting three main leads, which include Rey’s two apprentices and the main villain. Daniel didn’t provide details on these three characters, which probably means there are any that he was privy to at the time. Richtman recently said that Angela Bassett took a meeting at Lucasfilm with regards to a Star Wars role. Could she be up for one of these parts? Time will tell…

Richtman also added that the film is not being set up as the first in a new trilogy, but it could set up a sequel. Richtman added in the comments of his Paetreon post that filming will begin later this year.

As for Disney+ news, Daniel says that Star Wars: Ahsoka season 2 is currently in the writing stages and could be targeting a late 2024 shoot, which would make sense given the production schedule for the first season and the fact that they already have most of their cast in place. If this rumor is true, Lucasfilm will probably have to announce their plans for casting a new Baylan Skoll in a few months which could be during D23 this year.

Finally, Richtman is saying that Star Wars: The Acolyte season 2 (come on, we haven’t seen season one yet) has been planned, and adds that a writers’ room has been set.

What do you think of this new information, and do you think it is legit? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below!

Daisy Ridley’s Upcoming Star Wars Film To Drop Casting News Soon?

Daisy Ridley as Rey in the final moments of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. (Disney/Lucasfilm)

We are all awaiting new Star Wars movie news, and it seems that some casting news is imminent. At Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm announced three upcoming Star Wars films, one being a movie set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker featuring Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey Skywalker. Previous news concerning the film stated that the untitled movie will feature two Black leads, one male and one female, as the students Rey is teaching to carry forward the Jedi order. Now, we have an update from Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast concerning when we might here more about this upcoming film.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we got Star Wars news this month. Star Wars has always been a franchises that has like…things don’t always get announced. I remember years ago that this was uproar that Star Wars hadn’t hired a writer of colour, but I came out, after people told me privately, and said that they have writers of colour, but that they don’t want to respond to all the nonsense essentially.”

“I do think that there are things lying in wait. Possibly casting news that are already done. I think that the Daisy Ridley movie has its leads already and it is just a matter of a reporter finding out.”

You can watch/listen to the entire podcast embedded below.

Sam Raimi for Secret Wars?, New FURIOSA Trailer - THE HOT MIC

This news seems to indicate that we will most likely get some casting news for the film before Christmas. Thanks to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, it sure sounds like things were pushed back, and should have already been revealed. With the film set to begin filming in April of next year, hopefully this casting news will come fairly soon as an early Christmas present for patient Star Wars fans.

What are your thoughts concerning this news? Do you even care at this point? Of course as always, leave your thoughts in the comment section below to get the conversation started.

John Boyega Returning and Pre-Production Start Date for New Star Wars Film

Perhaps the biggest news coming from Celebration Europe 2023 was the announcement of three new Star Wars films. One of those films (which previously had Damon Lindelof attached) is going to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and will see the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey. According to the news coming from Celebration, the movie will take place fifteen years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

During this week’s episode of The Hot Mic, John Rocha mentioned that John Boyega has “buried the hatchet” with Kathleen Kennedy, and is now in negotiations to return to the Star Wars galaxy away as Finn.

I’ll tell you this – I’ll break this for myself. According to some sources that I know, a couple of sources, different sources have reached out to me because of this show [The Hot Mic], and according to them and what they’re hearing is…John Boyega will be coming back for this movie. That’s what I’ve been hearing from a couple of my sources, trusted people that I know.“

-John Rocha

Other good news for the future of the film is concerning the start date. Original rumors surrounding the film pointed towards a Summer start, but a new report from Jeff Sneider has surfaced claiming that filming for the sequel follow-up will begin in February of 2024 and that Lucasfilm is aiming for a release in December 2025. It seems that the company is looking to begin pre-production this August, which means casting will begin in earnest around that time.

I’m told that, we’ve been saying all along that the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy project I guess – it’s no longer the Damon Lindelof project, the Steven Knight and SOC project, the movie that Lucasfilm releases in December 2025 and to that I am told that pre-production will start in August, and so casting will start around then. They may be making lists right now at Lucasfilm for who they want in that movie, but I don’t think they’ve gone out to any talent and I don’t think they will until after the Summer. I would expect answers before Labor Day.”

-Jeff Sneider

Even though Daisy Ridley was announced to be in the film, it seems she will not be the lead. Jeff Sneider says that Ridley, will most likely be utilized in more of a Luke Skywalker/Obi-Wan Kenobi mentor capacity.

The untitled project is being written by Steven Knight, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and stars Daisy Ridley.

New Star Wars “Rey” Movie Script, Six Weeks Away

Daisy Ridley as Rey in the final moments of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. (Disney/Lucasfilm)

During the Studio Panel of Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, Lucasfilm announced three new films that would be coming to theaters in the next few years. First up it seems, will be the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directed movie featuring the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker. The movie is set 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and will see Rey setting up the New Jedi Order.

Speaking with Yahoo UK exclusively following Saturday’s Ahsoka panel, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy shared that a script for the upcoming film is imminent.

We’ve been working on that [film] for a few years and all of that feeds in to our overall storytelling, said Kennedy.
So we’ve just got to a point now where we’ve got a wonderful writer in Steven Knight, he’s come on board and we’re going to see a script probably in the next month and a half that we’ve been working on for quite a while.
So we’re getting close.

Yahoo! Movies UK – https://uk.movies.yahoo.com/star-wars-rey-movie-progress-072236466.html

Steven Knight recently took over writing duties on the film after Damon Lindelof left. If the script is turned in in six weeks, then it will probably take a few more to look over it and give it a final approval. Look for this film to start filming at some point late this year or early next year.

“REYLO” ISSUE ADDRESSED IN ‘THE RISE OF SKYWALKER’

It doesn’t matter which side of the fence you land on concerning Kylo Ren and Rey’s relationship. Should the be a couple? Are they more than that? Is there anything to it at all? For those with questions about the pair’s relationship status, EW has the answer. In a new interview with Daisy Ridley, she says that the question will be answered in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

“It does not bother me, people writing theories,” Ridley said. “It’s really fun hearing them. Plus, because I know what’s sort of going to happen, I think it’ll be really interesting to see people’s reaction to [the final film]. Obviously, there’s this whole Reylo thing and some people are very passionate about it, some aren’t.”

Ridley hinted that the seemingly romantic connection isn’t left unaddressed by director J.J. Abrams in The Rise of Skywalker.

“J.J. does deal with [it],” she added. “It’s a very complex issue. People talk about toxic relationships and whatever it is. It’s no joke and I think it’s dealt with really well because it’s not skimmed over.”

How do you want the relationship to turn out? Do you even care? As always leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Star Wars Episode IX Production Wrap Photo

We all know that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be the last movie in the “Skywalker Saga”. This has led many to believe that it will end, not only the story told of the classic characters, but those of sequel trilogy as well.

Well hold your horses for a bit. In a new video from MTV News (seen in the embed below), Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy indicates that this may not be the last time we see some of the leads in the film…

“You know, there is an appropriate time. We’re using this appropriate time as an opportunity to see where we’re going now that we’re leaving the Skywalker Saga behind,” she revealed. “But there’s no question that there’s certain characters that we’ve created certainly in the last three movies that we may very well wanna see down the line in the future.”

Check out the video below for the full interview.

The interview above also gives us other information about the future of the franchise including a possible Knights of the Old Republic movie, and female directors taking a crack at directing future Star Wars films.

New Animated Series Forces of Destiny Coming Soon with an Official Hasbro Line of Toys

Hasbro is bringing toys to the new animated series Forces of Destiny!  They just sent over a few official images of the new figures.  Check it out below!

Glendale, Calif. (April 13, 2017) – Disney and Lucasfilm today announced Star Wars Forces of Destiny, a new initiative celebrating the inspiring stories of iconic heroes from across the Star Wars universe. An original series of animated shorts (each 2-3 minutes in length) will explore exciting, all new adventures of key characters including Rey, Jyn Erso, Sabine Wren, Princess Leia, Ahsoka Tano and others, ahead of books and a TV special later in the year. The stories will also be supported by a line of toys from Hasbro, including new ‘Adventure Figures’ – a fusion between traditional dolls and action figures, creating a whole new way to play Star Wars.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MF2VFgCUSk

“Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity,” said Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm. “We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are. It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars.”

Developed by Lucasfilm Animation, Star Wars Forces of Destiny will remain true to the Star Wars canon, showing how choices both big and small ultimately shape the destinies of beloved characters. Launching in July, the animated micro-series will be available on Disney YouTube ahead of a two-part TV special featuring eight additional shorts on Disney Channel in Fall 2017. Fans will be delighted to hear familiar voices in the series, including: Daisy Ridley (Rey), Felicity Jones (Jyn), Tiya Sircar (Sabine), Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano) and Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata as narrator).

Star Wars Forces of Destiny will also be supported by global product extensions, including books, apparel, bedding, and toys – including the new line of ‘Adventure Figures’ created by Hasbro, which bridges the gap between traditional action figures and dolls. Each individually designed figure features dynamic action, like Rey swinging her lightsaber, along with multiple points of articulation to help recreate the characters’ adventures and heroic moments with different poses.

“From Princess Leia to Sabine Wren, Star Wars heroines are unique, and we wanted to represent that in the product line for Star Wars Forces of Destiny,” said Jimmy Pitaro, Chairman, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “The result is the creation of our new ‘Adventure Figures’ that celebrate the power and stories of these incredible characters and allow kids to recreate their most heroic moments at home.”

The 11-inch figures will depict characters including Rey, Jyn Erso, Princess Leia, Sabine Wren, plus loveable sidekicks and epic villains like BB-8, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren and many more. Hasbro is also rolling out Star Wars Forces of Destiny role play and accessories—from Rey’s Extendable Staff, to a new, electronic Jedi Power Lightsaber, which are part of their Star Wars Bladebuilders system.

Adds John Frascotti, President of Hasbro: “As the Star Wars fan base has broadened over the last 40 years, we have continued to add new and exciting play experiences to the Star Wars brand, to engage fans across generations. We’ve worked closely with Disney to bring the storytelling from Star Wars Forces of Destiny to life through this innovative toy line to help connect with new audiences as well as appeal to existing fans.”

Fans attending Star Wars Celebration in Orlando will see a sneak peak of Star Wars Forces of Destiny during the “Heroines of Star Wars” panel on Friday, April 14. The panel, moderated by Amy Ratcliffe – host of “Lattes with Leia” podcast, will feature Carrie Beck – vice president of animation at Lucasfilm and Dave Filoni – executive producer of Star Wars Rebels, as well as Ashley Eckstein, Tiya Sircar and other surprise guests. Daisy Ridley Posts New Photo from Star Wars Episode 8

New Star Wars Episode 8 Photo

As production wrapped yesterday, one of the stars of Star Wars: Episode VIII has posted a behind-the-scenes image on Instagram.  Daisy Ridley, better known as Rey to Star Wars fans, released this image which was taken during filming.  The new Star Wars Episode 8 photo from Daisy Ridley features Rey, looking down and holding a lightsaber, which is a tad bent.  No doubt it was bent due to some serious fighting on set.

Don’t worry though, I am sure a little CGI will do the trick, as lightsabers are put through the CGI ringer during post production.  Now we have to wait a long year and a half for the release of the finished film.  December 15, 2017 can’t get here fast enough!  Check out the photo Ridley posted below!
