Star Wars: Galactic Tales of Terror Library Edition Pre-Order Announced

Star Wars: Galactic Tales of Terror Library Edition

The Outer Rim has always been a place of mystery and danger, but soon, fans will be able to experience the true horrors of the galaxy in a single, beautiful volume. Dark Horse Books has announced the pre-order for the Star Wars: Galactic Tales of Terror Library Edition, a deluxe oversized collection written by the master of Star Wars horror, Cavan Scott.

Scheduled for release on September 22, 2026, this library edition is the definitive way to experience the “Tales from Vader’s Castle” style of storytelling that has become a staple for fans during the Halloween season.

What’s Inside the Collection?

The Star Wars: Galactic Tales of Terror Library Edition is a massive 336-page compilation that brings together several fan-favorite spooky releases. According to the official Penguin Random House listing, the book collects:

  • Tales from the Rancor Pit
  • Star Wars: Tales from the Death Star
  • Star Wars: Tales from the Nightlands #1–#3

The stories are framed by a haunting narrative set on the dark and stormy coast of Kef Bir. A mysterious cloaked figure warns a young maverick named Fry about the horrors lurking within the ruins of the second Death Star. From “Imperial zombies” and “ghostly pilots” to the claustrophobic “trash compactor terrors,” this book promises to showcase a side of the franchise that is rarely explored on the big screen.

Masterful Storytelling and Art

Cavan Scott, a New York Times bestselling author and one of the architects of The High Republic, has long been the go-to writer for Star Wars scares. His ability to blend the classic adventure of the franchise with genuine gothic horror has made these stories a hit with fans of all ages.

The Library Edition elevates these stories with high-quality paper and an oversized format (8 x 12-3/16 inches), allowing the detailed artwork to shine. The collection features a stellar lineup of artists, including Soo Lee, Vincenzo Riccardi, Fico Ossio, Nick Brokenshire, and Juan Samu. Each artist brings a unique, eerie visual style to the different segments of the book, ranging from the murky depths of a Rancor pit to the sterile, haunted hallways of an Imperial station.

While many of these stories were previously available as individual trade paperbacks or single-issue comics, the Library Edition format is highly sought after by collectors. Dark Horse’s library editions are known for their durability and “prestige” feel on a bookshelf.

For those who enjoy the “Legends” style of storytelling or the weirder corners of the canon, this collection is a perfect bridge. It manages to feel like a classic campfire ghost story session set against the backdrop of TIE fighters and lightsabers.

Pre-Order Information

With a retail price of $49.99, the Star Wars: Galactic Tales of Terror Library Edition is currently available for pre-order through major retailers and local comic shops. Given the popularity of Cavan Scott’s work and the high demand for Dark Horse Library Editions, fans are encouraged to secure their copy early.

Whether you are looking for the perfect gift for the Star Wars fan in your life or you want to prepare for a spooky marathon in 2026, this volume is looking to be an essential addition to any collection. Stay tuned to Outer Rim News for more updates on upcoming book releases and comic announcements.

Star Wars Introduces Its Own Boogeyman in New Tales from the Nightlands Series

Star Wars: Tales from the Nightland Issue 1 by Dark Horse

Dark Horse Comics and Lucasfilm Publishing have announced a new Star Wars horror comic series titled Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands. This three-issue series introduces a chilling new antagonist known as the Nightlander, a spectral entity that threatens heroes across the Star Wars timeline. The series is penned by Cavan Scott, with artwork by Soo Lee, Vincenzo Riccardi, and Robert Hack, and cover art by Francesco Francavilla.

Set on the planet Ryloth, the story draws from local legends of the Nightlands—a realm where Twi’lek spirits reside after death. The Nightlander emerges from this spectral plane, seeking to possess a living host and spread despair throughout the galaxy. Each issue features a different generation of Star Wars heroes confronting this malevolent force:

  • Issue #1: Young Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi attempt to contact Qui-Gon Jinn’s spirit but encounter the Nightlander instead.
  • Issue #2: Luke and Leia face the haunting presence.
  • Issue #3: Rey and Finn confront the dark power.

Cavan Scott, known for previous Star Wars horror tales like Tales From Vader’s Castle, expressed enthusiasm for bringing a spooky season to the Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm Publishing’s Michael Siglain highlighted the collaboration with artist Iain McCaig, designer of Darth Maul, in crafting the Nightlander’s appearance.

Advanced Review: Star Wars Adventures 20 from IDW Publishing

Star Wars Adventures 20 Cover

This month brings the close of IDW Publishing’s latest trilogy of Clone Wars era stories, so of course it’s convenient to end it with a story including everyone’s favorite moody Jedi Master-in-training Anakin Skywalker, as well as the all powerful Master Yoda. The Separatists’ presence in Wild Space is a mystery that Master Skywalker is sent by Master Mace Windu to uncover, but while on the planet Retta he’s surprised by Master Yoda who is also there to accompany him due to a presence felt there through the Force.

While trying to sneak around Separatist forces led by the evil General Flebek, our heroes run into an old friend of Yoda’s named Kreeda, who’s the last of a race called the Segredo. We discover that he’s been on this planet using a secret power to hide himself and others from the war currently raging in the galaxy. Anakin contemplates how this ability could be used to the Republic’s advantage by making Kreeda a spy, but is quickly interrupted by General Flebek and his droids.

Anakin is able to trick the opposing forces and take them all out before the refugees can be discovered and Yoda decides not to tell anyone what he and Anakin discovered.

IDW has done a great job of bringing us fun adventures that everyone can enjoy, and they don’t disappoint here. Any fan of The Clone Wars TV series will instantly find things to like here. Nothing beats when Master Yoda gets involved in missions for the Republic, and the lesson that Anakin has to learn here about the innocents that suffer during times of war, is something that everyone can take to heart.

This issue was definitely a winner and everyone should head to their nearest comic shop and pick up a copy.

What is Project Luminous?

Project Luminous Logo

Creative Director of Lucasfilm Publishing Michael Siglain, has tweeted a very vague logo and author group shot of an upcoming project titled, “Project Luminous”. The project was revealed at Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019 as well. According to the image, it is set to debut in 2020.

The project comes from authors Claudia Gray, Justin Ireland, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott and Charles Soule. The tweet of course says have patience young padawans, but we love to speculate!

Check out the embedded tweet below.

https://twitter.com/msiglain/status/1117853943395016711

From the look of the logo, we see a Jedi logo in the very middle of the image. Obviously this is a project about the Jedi. We also have writers from the world of Star Wars novels and comic books, which could mean that this is a cross-promotional type of storyline. It could be one or two novels, with several tie-in comic books.

This also is coming in 2020, so could this be something that takes place as a result of of something that happens in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? With little to know information other than a title, I am willing to bet that it definitely has some sort of ties to the upcoming film.

What are your thoughts? As always leave your comments in the appropriate places.

Stay tuned for more information!
