Your First Taste of the Rogue One Score

Rogue One Score

Back in September Rogue One was still set to be scored by Alexandre Desplat and we were still rolling along thinking everything was okay.  Then news broke that Desplat had been replaced at the last minute with Michael Giacchino.  This had fans cautiously optimistic, due to the fact that Giacchino is basically a John Williams disciple.

A Star Wars film without Williams is a scary proposition, but after this latest video was revealed, I believe fans have nothing to worry about.  The following video was released to give us a taste of some of the music created for the film, and I must say I am impressed…

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story "Scoring Highlights"

What are your thoughts?  Of course as always, leave them in the comment section below.  I look forward to getting a feel of what other Star Wars fans think.

About Rogue One:

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in U.S. theaters on December 16, 2016.

Michael Giacchino Briefly Comments on Rogue One

After replacing Alexandre Desplat as the composer on the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story film back in September, we never heard much from Michael Giacchino about the gig, other than a few tweets.  Now the composer has given a little bit of information to THR.  It seems due to his hectic schedule, he had to work on his birthday.  It was all good though, because Stormtroopers make everything better…

“I didn’t want to go to work that day, but I had to because our schedule was so tight,” said Giacchino. “So I go and sit down and turn on the screen to work and all of these Stormtroopers are running around and I thought to myself, ‘All right this is not a bad birthday.”

For those unfamiliar with Giacchino’s work, he is responsible for the music behind some of your favorite films like The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, Cars 2, Inside Out, Sky High, John Carter and Tomorrowland.

Giacchino is also currently working on the score for Marvel’s Doctor Strange film.

Michael Giacchino Set to Score Rogue One

If you have been following the production process for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, then you probably know that score for the film was supposed to be composed by Alexandre Desplat.  That is until reshoots happened.

In a move sort of out of left field, Lucasfilm has replaced Alexandre Desplat with Michael Giacchino, because of reshoots on the movie.  That is according to website THR.

But the reshoots also altered the scoring calendar and Desplat, who won an Oscar for The Grand Budapest Hotel, was no longer available. Disney and Lucasfilm then turned to Giacchino, who has a long relationship with the studio and its various divisions.

Here is what the composer had to say about the new gig, via his official Twitter account.
