Star Wars: The Acolyte Trailer Breaks Lucasfilm Record?

Lucasfilm is reporting that the release of the Star Wars: The Acolyte trailer has broken records for their digital-only Disney+ series. The company claims that since the release of the trailer for The Acolyte, it has garnered 51.3 million views in its first 24 hours.

Digging into those numbers, the YouTube trailer currently has 7.4 million views, and the trailer on X has 7.5 million views. As for Facebook and Instagram, well I can’t see those numbers, but if it is similar across all social media platforms you can expect similar views on each of them. I haven’t seen numbers for TikTok and the trailer is not on Threads. This equals a total of about 29.7 million (without TikTok’s number).

Could they be counting interactions where people have uploaded the trailer to their own social media accounts? Possibly. YouTube does give them insight to that, because the video would be marked as a copyright violation by YouTube’s systems. Is that enough to get it to 51.3 million? I don’t know, I guess we will just have to trust Lucasfilm on this one.

The Acolyte | Official Trailer | Disney+

In any case, I am excited for the new series and eagerly counting down the days to June 4.

The trailer introduced several new characters, and gave fans their first look at the High Republic era — 100 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and previously explored only in publishing and animation — in live-action. In addition, the official key art for The Acolyte was revealed alongside the trailer, and it was announced that the series will debut June 4 on Disney+ with a two-episode premiere.

In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….

Kathleen Kennedy Talks More About Upcoming Star Wars Films

In a brand new interview on Empire Online, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy expanded on the presentation at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 on when the next Star Wars movies are expected to arrive. She also talked about Lucasfilm’s approach to new Star Wars movies and how they need to be more of an event, rather than pushing movie after movie out every year.

Now, it’s a question of when those three upcoming movies are expected to arrive – and, as Kennedy tells Empire, that’s simply a case of when they’re ready. “I’ve often brought up Bond,” Kennedy tells us at Star Wars Celebration. “That’s every three or four years and there wasn’t this pressure to feel like you had to have a movie every year. I feel that was very important to Star Wars. We have to eventise this.” The simple answer is, nothing is likely to hit the multiplexes until at least 2025. “It’s much better to tell the truth,” she says, “that we’re going to make these movies when they’re ready to be made, and release them when they’re ready to be released.”

As for what those films are about, they’re set across a wide span of the Star Wars timeline. James Mangold is directing a film about the first Jedi and the discovery of the Force, set 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga. Dave Filoni will continue the Mando-verse era in a big-screen event. And Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey, in a film set 15 years beyond the end of Episode IX. It’s all about looking into the wider lore and legacy of the Jedi belief system. “What we’re exploring is the evolution of the Jedi,” Kennedy confirms. “We’re going very far back, we’re looking at the present, and now we’re moving 15 years after The Rise Of Skywalker. The First Order has fallen, the Jedi are in chaos – there’s even a question of how many exist anymore – and Rey’s building the New Jedi Order, based on the text that she was given and that Luke imparted on her.” The Force will be felt for many years to come.

I think Lucasfilm is finally learning, or maybe they knew all the time and it was Disney they had to convince, that Star Wars movies are special, and the every three year experience might be the right way to go. As always, leave your thoughts in the comment section below. Should these movies be spaced out and be more of an event? Or should they pump them out every year or multiple times a year to appease the Disney beast?

Fans of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be happy about the latest news breaking from Star Wars Celebration! Lucasfilm has announced that Alan Tudyk will be returning to reprise his role as K-2SO in the upcoming Cassian Andor live action series on Disney+.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced today that Alan Tudyk will reprise the role of K-2SO in the upcoming Cassian Andor live-action series for Disney+, the Company’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service launching November 12. For Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Tudyk both voiced K-2SO and performed motion-capture for the towering droid, who quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his wit and sense of loyalty.

In other news, Disney announced that its streaming service (Disney+) will be available November 12, 2019, and will cost you $6.99 a month! With this, The Mandalorian, new episodes of The Clone Wars, and Disney and Marvel shows, you can’t pass that deal up.

About Cassian Andor:

The rousing spy thriller stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor and Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, and will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. The series will premiere in 2021 on the Disney+ streaming service.

Are High Level Changes Taking Place at Lucasfilm?

Kiri Hart

Developing over the course of last night, a few fans spotted a glaring omission from the Lucasfilm Leadership page on their website. The normal group of leadership was on display with bios in place to learn more about each member, but Lucasfilm’s Senior Vice President, Development (and part of the highly publicized “Story Group”), is noticeably absent from the page.

A quick Google search for Kiri Hart Lucasfilm, shows that the very first listing is a bio for her that should have been linked to the Lucasfilm Leadership page (https://www.lucasfilm.com/leadership/kiri-hart/). However, her personal bio just redirects to the Leadership page.

Kiri Hart Lucasfilm Search results

This leads to some very interesting questions. One, her information could have been deleted on accident (hey I have been known to accidentally delete an employee’s information on a website a time or two), but this doesn’t seem likely.

Two she could have left on her own volition, to greener grasses in the industry (but honestly unless the work environment is horrible, what’s better than working at Lucasfilm?) Or three, she has been let go by the company.

Now fans can and probably will point to their issues with the “Post-Lucas” films as to the reasons she is no longer at the company. In fact no matter what answer comes from Lucasfilm, or Hart’s camp, that is indeed the story that most will go with, just because they want to believe that. I am not saying that, that isn’t the reason, but to me it doesn’t make sense that they would let her go now, for something that happened over a year ago.

More than likely, she left to take on new challenges at a different company, in which case we say, thank you for the Star Wars history that you have been part of, and May the Force Be With You!

Of course we will update as more information develops…

Star Wars And The Power Of Costume: The Exhibition Comes To New York

Star Wars and the Power of Costume

Smithsonian Exhibition to Feature Costumes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Iconic costumes and other artifacts from “a galaxy far, far away” are presented in the Smithsonian traveling exhibition, Rebel, Jedi, Princess, Queen: Star Wars and the Power of Costume: The Exhibition. The exhibition will open at Discovery Times Square on November 14th, 2015 and will be on view through September 5th, 2016.

Culled from the collection of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Star Wars and the Power of Costume: The Exhibition is a partnership of the museum, the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and Lucasfilm. George Lucas imagined and created a fantastical world filled with dynamic characters who told the timeless story of the hero’s journey. The costumes shaped the identities of these now famous characters, from the menacing black mask of Darth Vader and the gilded suit of C-3PO, to the lavish royal gowns of Queen Amidala and a bikini worn by Princess Leia when enslaved by Jabba the Hutt.

“Craftsmanship and artistry in costume design are valued creative components in the Star Wars saga,” said Lucas. “The detailed precision of a design can be as bold a measure of storytelling as words on a page, leading to truths at the core of a character, situation or shared history. From initial concept drawings to complex physical constructions, the costumes featured in this exhibition serve to further define crucial aspects of worlds created to move, educate and entertain us—to inspire the imagination.”

“There is not a more iconic entertainment property than Star Wars”, said James Sanna, President of Discovery Times Square. “We’re thrilled to host the East Coast premiere of this exciting new exhibit which will connect Star Wars fans to not only iconic costumes and artifacts from the first six films, but also introduces them to the next exciting chapter of the Star Wars saga.”

Presenting over 70 of the finest hand-crafted costumes and dozens of artifacts from the first six blockbuster Star Wars films including a selection from the soon to be released Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the exhibition uncovers the challenges, the intricate processes and the remarkable artistry of Lucas, the concept artists and costume designers.

The costumes reflect an eclectic mix of cultural, historical and mythical sources that add rich texture to the story. Through 15 galleries visitors will explore the creative process from Lucas’s vision through concept drawings by artists such as Ralph McQuarrie and Iain McCaig, to the final costume designs of John Mollo and Trisha Biggar, among others.

Featured costumes include:

  • Select costumes and BB-8 from Star Wars: The Force Awakens
  • Jedi masters Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker and Yoda
  • Intimidating suit and complex breathing apparatus of Darth Vader
  • Military-influenced uniforms of the Imperial Stormtrooper, Senate Guard and TIE Fighter Pilot
  • Yak hair and mohair costume of the towering Wookiee Chewbacca and Han Solo
  • Intergalactic outfits of Senators Bail Organa, Mon Mothma and Mas Amedda
  • Fierce armor of mercenary bounty hunters Jango Fett, Boba Fett and Zam Wesell
  • Elaborately detailed gowns of Queen Amidala, Queen Jamillia and their handmaidens

Short films featured in Star Wars and The Power of Costume: The Exhibitionprovide a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process and include interviews with artists, designers and actors. The visitor experience will be enhanced by interactive flip-books featuring sketches, photographs and notes that capture the creative team’s inspiration and vision. In addition, visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to see themselves in one of the iconic costumes through a unique virtual experience provided by Platige Image, which specializes in designing CG imagery, 3D animation and digital special effects.

Advanced ticket prices start at $20.00. Special savings for groups of 10 or more are available with advanced reservation. Once open, the last tickets are sold 60 minutes prior to closing. For individual tickets and venue hours, visit http://www.discovery.com or call 866.9.TSXNYC (866-987-9692) or visit the Discovery Times Square Box Office.
