Boba Fett Future: Temuera Morrison Reveals He’s Been ‘Shelved’ by Lucasfilm

The galaxy’s most notorious bounty hunter is currently cooling his heels in a bacta tank, or, more accurately, a “preservative jar.” In a series of surprisingly candid interviews, most notably with Inverse, Temuera Morrison has pulled back the curtain on his Boba Fett future. The news is bittersweet for fans of the legendary Daimyo of Tatooine.

Despite the explosive return of the character in The Mandalorian Season 2, the path forward for the Fett legacy remains shrouded in the twin suns’ haze.

“Like a Jar of Peaches”: Morrison on Being Benched

During his recent discussions, Morrison didn’t mince words about his current status within the Disney+ Star Wars ecosystem. He likened his situation to a jar of peaches sitting on a shelf at “grandma’s house.”

“I’m shelved, that’s all,” Morrison explained. “Like a jar of peaches. When it does get opened, I’m going to come out sweeter, darling.”

While the actor maintains a positive and humorous outlook, the underlying message is clear: Lucasfilm currently has no active plans to bring Boba Fett back to the screen. For fans who were hoping for a surprise cameo in The Mandalorian & Grogu movie or an immediate announcement for The Book of Boba Fett Season 2, this update serves as a reality check.

Why the Boba Fett Future is in Limbo

The primary reason for this “preservation” seems to stem from the divisive reception of The Book of Boba Fett. The series was a ratings hit for Disney+. In spite of that, it faced criticism for “defanging” the ruthless bounty hunter and for dedicating a significant portion of its runtime to the Mandalorian’s own side quest.

Morrison himself has previously acknowledged that the show’s reception likely impacted the character’s immediate trajectory. By centering the story on Boba’s transition from a killer to a “benevolent” crime lord, the series took risks that didn’t land with every segment of the audience. Now, it appears Lucasfilm is taking a step back to reevaluate how to best utilize the character.

The Pitch for Captain Rex

One silver lining for fans of Morrison’s work is his versatility. Because he provided the template for the entire Clone Army, he isn’t limited to just one suit of armor. Morrison revealed that he has even pitched himself to Dave Filoni for Ahsoka Season 2.

“I’m trying to ring them up,” Morrison said. “Can I be Rex and take his helmet off, please?”

While Boba Fett remains “on the shelf,” the possibility of seeing Morrison return as an older, live-action Captain Rex remains a high probability. Especially given Rex’s deep connection to Ahsoka Tano.

Will There Be a Book of Boba Fett Season 2?

As of early 2026, Lucasfilm has not officially announced a second season for the series. Morrison remains vocal about his desire to return to the role. He even joked that fans should start a “fax and email campaign” to the studio. However, he later clarified that the studio was not thrilled with his call to arms. He noted he was “put on the shelf” shortly after making those comments.

Despite the current radio silence, the Boba Fett future isn’t necessarily dead. In the world of Star Wars, “shelved” rarely means “canceled.” With Dave Filoni’s upcoming New Republic cinematic event on the horizon, it is hard to imagine a galactic-scale conflict that doesn’t eventually require the firepower of Tatooine’s ruling Daimyo.

What’s Next for Fans?

For now, fans will have to wait for that “peach jar” to be reopened. With The Mandalorian & Grogu leading the charge back into theaters and Ahsoka Season 2 in development, the pieces of the New Republic era are still moving. Whether Boba Fett returns as a hero, a villain, or something in between, Temuera Morrison remains ready to put the helmet back on, whenever Lucasfilm decides it’s time to take him off the shelf.

Hallmark Unveils 2023 Convention Exclusive Ornaments!

Hallmark has revealed three brand new Star Wars event exclusives for San Diego Comic-Con 2023 and New York Comic-Con 2023. The Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments are Darth Revan, from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Black Krrsantan from Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett. The third ornament is an homage to the classic Kenner Boba Fett action figure with the Boba Fett Funko Pop! Ornament.

The two Keepsake ornaments will be $30.00 each, while the Funko Boba Fett ornament will be $15.00. We know the Darth Revan will be limited to only 5,000 pieces, so we can only assume that the other two will be limited to that number as well. What is weird, is that the Revan ornament has a page to order it, while the other two do not. That is weird for a supposed convention exclusive.

Robert Rodriguez Talks the Future of Boba Fett

While talking with io9 for his upcoming film Hipnotic, Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett director Robert Rodriguez revealed some interesting information about Boba Fett. Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 came and went, and while we got lots of information on upcoming projects, Boba Fett was strangely missing from the announcements. It would seem a season 2 of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett would be inevitable… Right…?

One person that does know is Robert Rodriguez. He had this to say to the website…

“I can’t say. I’m sworn to secrecy. I wish I could tell you. I know all the answers to what you’re asking, but I can’t say.”

Of course this sort of response was expected, but at least we kind of know they haven’t forgotten about Fett.

Rodriguez went on to talk about how much he loves the Star Wars universe, and his feelings and thoughts about working in and on that universe…

“Everything you saw every day… it didn’t feel like you were seeing behind the scenes. It felt so real,” Rodriguez said. “The sets were so real. Even the volume was so real that you felt like you were in Star Wars… You know, there’s these’s things called ‘Rock Camp’ that if you want to go play with [Aerosmith guitarist] Joe Perry or something, you pay money to get on stage for two seconds with him? This is what a director would pay money to do. To have Star Wars camp. To get to direct and edit and be part of the Star Wars universe just as an experience is one of my favorite experiences because it was just a dream come true.”

Hopefully it won’t be long before we learn more about the further adventures of Boba Fett. Stay tuned for more information as it develops…

Jeremy Bulloch’s Remaining Star Wars Collection Going Up for Auction on May 4th

Collecting Star Wars memorabilia is a fantastic hobby, but unfortunately like all good things, there will be a time when we will leave these plastic treasures to the next generation of collectors. Such is the case for the collection of original Boba Fett actor Jeremy Bulloch. Bulloch passed away December 17, 2020 and left behind a massive collection of Boba Fett and Star Wars memorabilia from a lifetime of collecting and fan gifts.

The collection has been divided up into two huge auctions and the first has already been completed. The last lot will go up starting May 4th with a substantial donation from the proceeds going to Parkinson’s UK. The first auction raised almost $200,000! Hopefully this final round will do just as much or more!

This morning Hasbro revealed its first figures based on the new season of The Mandalorian as part of Mando Mania with a Black Series and The Vintage Collection R5-D4 droid figures. In addition to the two new R5-D4 figures, Hasbro also revealed a new Boba Fett (Tusken) figure, based on his appearance in The Book of Boba Fett during his time with the Tusken tribe.

Hot Toys Unveils New Book of Boba Fett Cad Bane and Boba Fett Figures!

Hot Toys has just revealed Boba Fett and Cad Bane from the hit Disney+ series, Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett! Cad Bane comes in two versions, a standard and deluxe, while Fett comes in just a standard version. The deluxe version of Cad Bane comes with Todo 360, which is a neat addition, even though the droid did not appear in the series. Both of these figures will be released between the Third and Fourth Quarters of 2023.
