Here Come the Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Microtransactions!

Star Wars: Battlefront II was not quite the juggernaut out of the gate that EA was hoping for this year. Mostly due to fan backlash over microtransactions announced for the game, fans never hopped on board the Battlefront II train.

In an investor call yesterday, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen broke down some of the sales numbers for the game. Battlefront II is trailing it’s predecessor by about 4 million copies during the same time span. The sequel sold about 9 million copies during its launch quarter, whereas the original sold about 13 million. EA had expected about 10 million sales for the game during that quarter.

During an interview with the WSJ, Jorgensen told the magazine that microtransactions would also be making its debut “in the next few months.” EA states that they believe that microtransactions have the ability to “enhance the experience in our games.”

“Going forward, we believe that live services that include optional digital monetization, when done right, provide a very important element of choice that can extend and enhance the experience in our games,” EA said. “We’re committed to continually working with our players to deliver the right experience in each of our games and live services.”

All is not bleak though. Jorgensen indicated that he thought the game would sell as many as 3 million more copies during this fiscal year. That would give them a total of 12 million copies sold, which is just 2 million shy of the first games mark during the same timeframe.

EA has said that efforts to keep players coming back is working. During the first three months of release, the game has logged over twice as much as its predecessor during the same timeframe.

About Star Wars Battlefront 2:

Star Wars Battlefront focuses on the fast frenetic battles that you love in the star wars saga. Fight dozens of troopers alongside memorable heroes like Darth Vader each with unique skills and attributes. Chances are you’ve already played the first one and Battlefront 2 promises to deliver where it fell short. You want a story mode? You want clone troopers? You want deeper gameplay? The team at DICE seems to be trying to please the fans with this one (unless you wanted those fun 32v32 battles from the originals).

EA Definitely Delivering New Star Wars Battlefront Game in 2017

Star Wars Battlefront game

If you are a fan of Battlefield, then this news will be disappointing.  If you are a fan of Star Wars Battlefront, then this news will be awesome!  Speaking at the Nasdaq 35th Investor Program earlier today, EA’s chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen told reporters that the companies priority next year would be a new Star Wars Battlefront game.

Speaking at the Nasdaq 35th Investor Program earlier today, Jorgensen stated that EA “won’t have another Battlefield back for a couple of years. Next year we’ll have Battlefront, the Star Wars game.”

It also seems that the new game will focus more on the current state of the Star Wars galaxy featuring content from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Episode 8.

Next year we’ll have the opportunity to leverage more of that content from the new movies and we think that’ll make the opportunity much larger.

Are you going to be playing this game when it hits (supposedly fall of 2017)?  Leave your thoughts in the comment section below!

New Star Wars Battlefront Coming Next Fall?

New Star Wars Battlefront

Thanks to the latest EA investor’s call, we have confirmation that a new Star Wars Battlefront game is in development and will be released next fall.  Asked by an analyst about the timing of the next Battlefront game, EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen confirmed that the sequel is coming “a year from now.” That suggests the game will be released next fall.

“We’re working very hard on making sure that is an extremely deep and engaging offering,”

This new bit of information gives us a better timetable for release.  Earlier this year EA said that the game would be coming between April and December 2017, which is very vague time frame.

Unfortunately no information was given on the exact setting for the game.  The original game released last fall, was set in the original trilogy time period.  One would hope that EA and DICE would take advantage of the post trilogy movies and create the game around the current setting of the Star Wars galaxy.  Especially before heading back tot he prequel era of Star Wars.

What are your thoughts about the upcoming game?  As always you can start the discussion in the comment section below!
