Star Wars: Battle Pod, is a dome screen arcade system designed to offer gamers an experience they can “only dream of.” It’s a game, according to the company, that you don’t just play, you experience.

The Battle Pod is a single seat Star Wars vehicle combat sim that uses a curved screen to drop players into the game, and the movies. Players sit inside the pod, using a flight stick and throttle to fly and fight their way through the Star Wars franchise.

The domed screen works in conjunction with a seat that reacts to explosions, special fans that blow air, vibrating controllers and 5.1 sound. The vibration, air gusts and sound turn the game into an incredible Star Wars “toy,” they said.

Bandai Namco Revealing New Arcade Machine at NYCC

Star Wars Podracer – No this isn’t the new arcade machine.

The week before New York Comic-Con always brings out the latest and greatest pop culture news, before it even debuts at the convention.  This year is no different than any other.  Namco Bandai announced yesterday that they would be taking the lid off of a brand new Star Wars arcade machine at the convention!

The unveiling will take place at a press only event, so the general public will not be allowed to see it.  Bandai Namco did not offer any information on the machine other than it was a new Star Wars machine.

In the past, Star Wars games have generally been the highlight of any arcade, so hopefully this machine will follow in the footsteps of its predecessors.   This will also give Steve Sansweet another arcade machine to add to his collection ;).

Hopefully we will have more information about the new machine during New York Comic-Con from all the gaming press people in attendance.  Until then we are left to wonder what the game will be based on.

Could it be another simulator game, a shooter, or a pinball machine?  Most likely not pinball, but the others would be fantastic.   The safe bet would be that it is some sort of tie-in to Star Wars Rebels.  I guess we will find next weekend!  Until then, may the force be with you!

UPDATE – You can check out what the arcade game is all about in an updated article here!
