According to a new interview with Bloomberg, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger revealed that Star Wars will be taking a little hiatus from the theaters after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
“We have not announced any specific plans for movies thereafter,” Iger said in a Bloomberg Television interview Thursday. “There are movies in development, but we have not announced them.”
He goes on to indicate that the primary focus for the near future is the launch of their streaming service Disney+, and making sure that it is a success.
After that, the franchise will focus more on TV projects, Iger said.
“We will take a pause, some time, and reset,” he said, “because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie. There will be other Stars Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus.”
We know that Rian Johnson has a new trilogy in development, and David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also have their own trilogy in development. With that in mind, there are no shortage of movies in production, it seems that they will take their time and get these right. Let them simmer so to speak, while Disney+ breaks open new content for the franchise.
