After years of sticking strictly to the sequel era timeline, Disneyland is finally breaking the seal on the Original Trilogy within the walls of Black Spire Outpost.
The biggest news out of the Core Worlds this week is the arrival of everyone’s favorite scoundrel. If you are looking to meet the captain of the Millennium Falcon, you are in luck. Here is everything we know about the Han Solo Galaxy’s Edge debut and what it means for the future of the park.
For years, the story of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been rooted firmly in the era of the Resistance and the First Order. While fans have loved seeing Rey and Kylo Ren, there has always been a lingering desire to see the legends who started it all. That wait is officially coming to an end.
Starting April 29, 2026, Disneyland’s version of Batuu will undergo a massive “timeline shift,” and a new preview has given us our first look at the most anticipated addition: Han Solo.
A Scoundrel Returns to the Falcon
In a newly released preview, Disney shared a first look at the Han Solo character who will be roaming the park. Unlike the younger version seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story, this is the Han Solo fans recognize from the Original Trilogy. Clad in his iconic blue vest, off-white shirt, and brown trousers, complete with his signature DL-44 blaster strapped to his thigh, the character looks like he stepped right off the screen of A New Hope.
The preview footage is enough to make any fan emotional, showing Han Solo and Chewbacca working together to repair the Millennium Falcon. For the first time since the land opened in 2019, the “fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy” will finally be overseen by its true owner in a theme park setting.
How the Timeline Shift Works
You might be wondering how Han Solo can exist in the same land as the Resistance. Disney is solving this through a creative “multiverse” of storytelling. While the forested Resistance camp area will continue to host Rey and the events of the sequel trilogy, the spaceport area, specifically around the Millennium Falcon and Oga’s Cantina, will now “roll back” the clock.
This means that depending on where you walk in the land, you could be stepping into different eras of the Star Wars saga. This shift allows for an incredible roster of characters to appear, including:
- Han Solo and Chewbacca: Often found bickering near the Falcon.
- Princess Leia Organa: Joining Han in the spaceport.
- Luke Skywalker: Appearing in his Return of the Jedi or The Mandalorian era attire.
- Darth Vader: The Dark Lord of the Sith will be hunting for Rebels throughout the outpost.
What Prompted the Change?
Since Galaxy’s Edge opened, there has been a debate among fans regarding the “immersion” vs. “nostalgia.” By sticking to a strict timeline, Disney restricted themselves from using the most famous characters in the franchise. This change shows that Disney is listening to the community.
The inclusion of Han Solo Galaxy’s Edge meet-and-greets brings a level of energy to the land that was previously missing. Seeing Han and Chewie together by the Falcon isn’t just a photo op; it’s the fulfillment of a dream for generations of Star Wars fans.
More Than Just Characters
The update on April 29 isn’t just about the people; it’s about the atmosphere. Disneyland is also introducing a new “sonic landscape.” Guests will now hear John Williams’ legendary film scores playing throughout the land, replacing the ambient loops that were previously used. Hearing “Han Solo and the Princess” while walking past the Millennium Falcon is going to transform the experience entirely.
Furthermore, new artifacts and props from the Original Trilogy will be added to the shops and stalls of Black Spire Outpost, making the land feel like a true celebration of all things Star Wars.
Whether you are a fan of the new movies or a die-hard Original Trilogy purist, the arrival of Han Solo at Disneyland is a monumental moment. Be sure to head to the park starting April 29 to see the captain in action!
