Atomic Mass Games Strategic Shift: The Future of Star Wars: Legion and Shatterpoint

In a move that will reshape the tabletop landscape of a galaxy far, far away, Atomic Mass Games (AMG) has announced a significant strategic reorganization. This shift aims to streamline the studio’s portfolio to ensure long-term growth and deeper investment in its most popular titles. For fans of Atomic Mass Games’ Star Wars offerings, the news brings a mix of exciting expansions for veteran players and a new “specialist” direction for others.

Star Wars: Legion Takes Center Stage as a Flagship Title

The headline for many hobbyists is the elevation of Star Wars: Legion to a “flagship” status within the AMG ecosystem. Following the monumental success of the game’s second edition launch in Fall 2025, the studio is doubling down on the mass-battle miniatures game.

By designating Legion as a primary focus, AMG intends to redirect talent and financial resources toward expanding the game’s four main factions. This means players can expect a more consistent cadence of unit expansions and character releases. Furthermore, the studio teased the exploration of new sub-factions, reminiscent of the Shadow Collective Mercenary expansion released in 2022. This opens the door for niche groups like the Crimson Dawn, the Hutt Cartel, or perhaps even High Republic-era forces to make their way onto the tabletop.

Beyond just adding new plastic to the shelf, the “flagship” designation ensures that Legion receives innovative gameplay support. AMG confirmed that this new focus is key to launching diverse gameplay modes, including the “Special Operations” skirmish mode and the highly anticipated “Full Scale War” large-scale game mode, which promises to bring epic-level cinematic combat to the hobby.

Star Wars: Shatterpoint Transitions to Specialist Line

While Legion is expanding, Star Wars: Shatterpoint is entering a new phase of its lifecycle. AMG announced that the character-driven skirmish game will be transitioning into a “specialist core game line.”

What does this mean for players? As a specialist game, Shatterpoint will see a more streamlined release schedule. The goal is to align the game’s growth with the studio’s restructured development resources while maintaining a high level of gameplay quality. AMG emphasized that they remain committed to the product line, ensuring that core boxes and expansions stay in print and available for the dedicated community that has grown around the game since its 2023 debut.

New Leadership and Studio Vision

This strategic pivot comes alongside a leadership change at the studio. Atomic Mass Games will now be led by Co-Heads of Studio Will Shick and Brandon Anderson. This duo will oversee the realignment of resources to ensure that the “Atomic Mass Games Star Wars” portfolio remains the gold standard for tabletop miniatures.

“By sharpening our focus and aligning our resources around our core titles, we’re positioning Atomic Mass Games for long-term growth,” stated Brandon Anderson. Will Shick added that the studio’s commitment to the community remains unchanged: “Our goal is to continue delivering the high-quality hobby experiences that bring people together.”

What’s Next for Star Wars Gamers?

The Star Wars community won’t have to wait long for more details. The AMG team will be present at both the GAMA Expo and AdeptiCon this March. During these events, the studio is expected to showcase upcoming miniatures and provide updated roadmaps for both Legion and Shatterpoint.

This marks a pivotal moment. The focus on Legion suggests a healthy, competitive future for the game’s tournament scene and local league play, while the “Specialist” status for Shatterpoint indicates a more curated, boutique approach to the skirmish format. Could this mean Shatterpoint is winding down?
