The development team behind the highly anticipated video game Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic just received a huge creative boost. Arcanaut Studios has officially hired seasoned video game writer Tony Elias to serve as the Narrative Director for the upcoming project.
Elias, best known for his stellar world-building and character work on CD Projekt Red’s massive hit Cyberpunk 2077, shared the exciting career move via his personal LinkedIn profile. The announcement quickly caught the attention of gaming outlets and Star Wars fans alike.
In his update, Elias expressed immense enthusiasm for his new role at the studio. “Happy to share that I’ve joined Arcanaut Studios as Narrative Director!” Elias wrote. “I’ll be working with Casey Hudson and a wonderful team of new and familiar faces on Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, the spiritual successor to KOTOR.”
A Powerhouse Creative Team Assembles
Elias is stepping into an already deeply impressive creative circle. Arcanaut Studios is spearheaded by Casey Hudson, the legendary former BioWare boss who famously directed the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) in 2003, as well as the groundbreaking Mass Effect trilogy.
By positioning Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic as the true spiritual successor to KOTOR, Hudson and his team are aiming to recapture the magic of branching moral choices, deep lore exploration, and unforgettable companion relationships. Elias’s background in crafting dense, choice-driven, and mature science-fiction narratives makes him an incredibly fitting puzzle piece for a project of this scale.
Beyond his critically acclaimed work on Cyberpunk 2077, Elias boasts a highly decorated resume in the AAA gaming space. His writing credits span an array of major narrative-heavy titles, including Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake and Quantum Break, as well as Monolith Productions’ Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Additionally, Elias is credited as a writer for the upcoming sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which has been in active development for the past year and a half, and he previously spent time working on Monolith’s highly anticipated Wonder Woman video game before its unfortunate cancellation in 2025.
Elias is not the only high-profile literary talent joining the studio’s ranks either. Reports indicate that Jenny “J.S.” Dewes, the celebrated author behind The Divide series, has also been brought on board as a writer to help flesh out the game’s expansive script.
What to Expect From Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic
While concrete gameplay footage and story specifics remain heavily guarded secrets at Arcanaut Studios, the core framework of the title is beginning to take shape. The game is being built as a massive, choice-driven role-playing experience centered heavily around the classic Star Wars push-and-pull between the Light Side and the Dark Side of the Force. Players will navigate complex moral grey areas, with their direct choices shifting the narrative trajectory and the ultimate fate of the galaxy.
The project is currently in active development for PC and current-generation consoles. While a definitive release date has not yet been locked in by the publisher, Casey Hudson has previously teased fans that development is progressing smoothly and that players thankfully won’t have to wait all the way until 2030 to jump back into the Old Republic era. With Elias now steering the narrative ship, expectations for the game’s story have officially skyrocketed.
