Today, Lucasfilm officially pulled back the curtain on the new teaser trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu, the highly anticipated feature film that marks the franchise’s return to the silver screen.

Directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, the trailer confirms that the bond between Din Djarin and his diminutive apprentice remains the beating heart of the Star Wars galaxy.

“I Won’t Always Be Around”

The trailer’s emotional core is a poignant voiceover from Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), who acknowledges the reality of Grogu’s long lifespan. “The kid will live centuries beyond me,” Mando says. “I won’t always be around to protect him.”

This suggests the film will move beyond the “bounty of the week” format to explore the long-term legacy of the Mandalorian Creed and Grogu’s place in a galaxy that is rapidly changing.

Key Highlights from the Official Trailer

  • Hunting the Remnant: The trailer establishes Mando’s new objective: hunting down the “gangsters, war criminals, and long-lived Empire” remnants that still plague the Outer Rim.
  • Preventing War: This isn’t just a personal journey. As Djarin notes, “This isn’t about revenge. It’s about preventing another war.”
  • The Babu Frik Connection: We get a delightful look at what appear to be multiple Anzellans (the species of The Rise of Skywalker’s Babu Frik) assisting the duo.
  • A New Threat: A mysterious, menacing voice warns, “He will suffer… and then it will be his turn,” hinting at a formidable new
  • Old Friends: The debut of the bounty hunter Embo in live action. You may remember him from Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes.

From Disney+ to the Big Screen

Since the conclusion of Season 3, fans have wondered how the episodic nature of the series would translate to a cinematic event. If this trailer is any indication, the scale has been significantly “leveled up.” The cinematography looks more expansive, the practical effects seem more intricate, and the stakes feel global, or rather, galactic.

Jon Favreau previously stated that the prospect of bringing these characters to theaters was a “natural evolution” of the story. With The Mandalorian & Grogu serving as the first Star Wars film in theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, the pressure is on to prove that the Force is still strong with the theatrical experience.

Release Date

The Mandalorian & Grogu is currently slated to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
