The galaxy far, far away is getting closer to its grand return to the silver screen, and the latest The Mandalorian and Grogu movie news has fans buzzing with excitement. Lucasfilm has released a brand-new promotional roundtable video that brings together the creative minds and stars of the upcoming blockbuster, including the little green guy himself.

In a delightful marketing move, an incredibly lifelike animatronic Grogu puppet joined stars Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver, along with director Jon Favreau, for a discussion about the transition from Disney+ to IMAX. While Grogu mostly contributed with his signature coos and grunts, the humans at the table provided plenty of insight into what audiences can expect when the film hits theaters on May 22, 2026.

A Reluctant Bond: Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver

One of the biggest highlights of the roundtable was the interaction between the legendary Sigourney Weaver and the titular apprentice. Weaver, who plays a character named Colonel Ward, seems to have a complex dynamic with the young Force-user.

Pedro Pascal noted during the discussion that the relationship between Weaver’s character and Grogu “evolved organically.” According to Pascal, while things may have started out “reluctantly,” they eventually formed a “deeply, deeply bonded” connection. This suggests that Colonel Ward might start the film as a skeptic or a foil to the duo before becoming a vital ally in their new mission.

Weaver herself poked fun at her small co-star, jokingly referring to him as a “little snack eater.” However, she was quick to clarify that Grogu has grown significantly since we last saw him in Season 3 of the series. “He’s not just a cute face,” Weaver added, hinting at the action-heavy role the character will play in the feature film.

Scaling Up for IMAX

Jon Favreau emphasized that this isn’t just a longer episode of the television show. The goal for The Mandalorian and Grogu is to recapture the awe-inspiring feeling of seeing Star Wars in a theater for the first time.

“Because it’s IMAX, because it’s a movie, I wanted to recapture the feeling of when I first saw Star Wars,” Favreau explained. He noted that the production is utilizing every piece of available technology to ensure the scale matches the theatrical setting. This includes a shift away from the heavy use of “The Volume” (StageCraft) in favor of massive practical sets and location shooting, designed to give a “whole new audience that same feeling of excitement.”

Favreau also touched upon Grogu’s development as a character. In the film, Grogu is no longer just “precious cargo” being protected by Din Djarin. Favreau remarked that the character now “actually feels like he can handle himself,” solidifying his status as a Mandalorian apprentice rather than just a foundling.

Behind-the-Scenes Sizzle

The roundtable concluded with a sizzle reel that offered fans a glimpse at the massive production. The footage showcased impressive Imperial AT-AT sets, a return to swampy environments, and a look at remote-controlled BD droids.

For fans who have been following every bit of The Mandalorian and Grogu movie news, these details confirm that Lucasfilm is pulling out all the stops for their return to cinema. With a cast that includes Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Jeremy Allen White (reportedly as Rotta the Hutt), the film is shaping up to be the cinematic event of 2026.
