A new cast member has been added to Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII! According to the website Collider, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights) has been cast in an unspecified role in the film.
Of course with Star Wars: The Force Awakens just 74 days away, we still don’t know much about that film, much less the sequel to it. According to an article by Latino-Review that was published a few days ago, Mbatha-Raw was in the running for a part against Gina Rodriguez, Tatiana Maslany and Olivia Cooke. They were all supposedly screen testing with John Boyega.
Hopefully more news will be coming soon concerning her role.
Mbatha-Raw will be seen later this year in the NFL drama Concussion and early in 2016 with The Free State of Jones. She’s also co-starring in the live-action Beauty and the Beast, which opens in 2017.
Star Wars: Episode VIII opens May 26, 2017.
