It has finally come to an end! Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has finally been put to rest at the box office, and BoxOfficeMojo.com has Rogue One’s final box office numbers to share. The film debuted December 16, 2016 to the tune of $155,081,681, and never looked back.
That number is unprecedented due to the fact that this was not another chapter in the episodic Skywalker line of films, and it wasn’t like The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars film in 10 years. This was the little film that Disney and Lucasfilm were betting the bank on. If this film succeeded, then it meant the possibility was endless for Star Wars. It meant that Lucasfilm could give the greenlight to any Star Wars film they deemed worthy of a movie.
From the breakdown of numbers provided by Box Office Mojo, Rogue One scored a slight majority of it’s money from the United States with $532,177,324. The foreign box office took in the remaining $523,781,947.
After everything was said and done, the film set the tone for what is possible with Star Wars, outside of the main films, and leaves us with an endless possibility of films for the future.
