A new report from the website Collider, suggests that Star Wars: The Acolyte will drop this summer on Disney+.
Set 50 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: The Acolyte will follow a former Jedi Padawan, and her one-time Master as they fall into an investigation of sinister crimes in an ever-changing galaxy.
The series also boasts a massive, and massively-talented, ensemble cast led by Amandla Stenberg. They will be joined by Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae as a Jedi Master, and Joonas Suotamo as a Wookiee Jedi named Kelnacca. Also in The Acolyte‘s cast are Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, and Charlie Barnett.
The show does have a connection to Star Wars: The High Republic in that Rebecca Henderson, initially announced to be playing a Mirialan Jedi, would in fact be playing an older version of Vernestra Rwoh, one of the more prominent characters in Phase I and III of the books, and an all-around fan-favorite.
I believe this show is what Lucasfilm will use to determine if there is a future for The High Republic in live action. Should this series turn out to be a success, then you can guarantee this will open up many doors for that era in live action, most undoubtedly a cinematic turn as well. Will the show be a success? I guess we will find out this summer!
