With the massive success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm has been given carte blanche to do whatever they want with the Star Wars franchise.  The film has now passed the one billion dollar mark globally and has officially cemented the Star Wars franchise as the must see movies of the year.

Lucasfilm already had other Star Wars spinoffs in some state of development, like Han Solo, and the much rumored Boba Fett film.  With the success of Rogue One, it is now full steam ahead for those spinoffs.

The next film on the docket is the untitled “Young Han Solo” film.  Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller recently cast Woody Harrelson in the film to play Han’s mentor.  While talking with Yahoo!, Woody Harrelson let slip that Han Solo starts filming in March, and that his character is Garris Shrike.  Now should he have leaked that information?  Probably not, but fans around the world are sure glad he did.

The next question is the release date.  The film originally slated for May of 2018, now has unconfirmed date in 2018.  The logical guess is that Disney has decided to make December their month for Star Wars, and the March start date makes sense, especially with the fact that they HAVE to get this film right.  Especially when you are replacing a Harrison Ford character.

About the Han Solo Film:

The upcoming Han Solo film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. It will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur, and Simon Emanuel. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke, and Woody Harrelson as Garris Shrike (unconfirmed). The movie hits theaters in 2018.
