Star Wars Episode VIII isn’t even close to being released to theaters (December of 2017), and we already have confirmation of at least one person that will be back for that film. Thanks to a nice little Twitter video, Mark Hamill revealed that Luke Skywalker will be back for Star Wars Episode IX.

This doesn’t actually confirm that Luke Skywalker will make it out of the next film alive. We have seen several “Force” ghosts in the Star Wars universe including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Anakin Skywalker. So don’t get too happy for this confirmation just yet. It would be hard to consider a ninth addition to the franchise without Luke Skywalker though.
About Star Wars: Episode IX:
Star Wars: Episode IX hits North American theaters in 2019. The film will be directed by Colin Trevorrow and stars Mark Hamill (at least that is all that is confirmed).
