About Star Wars Rebels Season 3:

Having established a secret base on Atollon, the Ghost crew, now led by a more powerful Ezra, strengthens the rebel fleet by acquiring new resources and recruits eager to stand against the Empire. However, the Imperial efforts to eliminate the rebellion are now being led by the coldly analytical Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose strategic, tactical and cultural insights make him a threat unlike any they have faced before. In season three, Ezra and Sabine take on new roles and challenges as the rebels prepare for their biggest mission yet – a direct assault on the Empire.

Dave Filoni Creatively Overseeing Future Star Wars Animation Projects

Dave Filoni

Last night’s Star Wars Rebels season 3 premiere was another typically fantastic addition to the franchise.  The show came on and went off like every other episode, but with one distinct difference!  Dave Filoni is no longer listed as the Supervising Director.

How is that you say?  Wasn’t he at Celebration Europe a couple of months ago, giving fans the lowdown on season 3?  Well it seems the move is not a demotion.  He is not going anywhere.  Justin Ridge has taken over the Supervising Director slot, and Filoni has moved into more of a creative overseer (think George Lucas, to the Clone Wars).

The move gives Filoni more control over the story and concepts, without having to worry about the day-to-day grind of getting each show out.

In fact one Lucasfilm employee tweeted the following after the news was released, to ease the minds of fans…

Dave is still just as involved as ever – overseeing all aspects of Star Wars Rebels production as Executive Producer and occasionally directing episodes.  In many ways, mentoring Justin and moving him into the role as Supervising Director has made it possible for Dave to be even more immersed in the writing and story structure of the show as well as creatively overseeing future animation development. Justin started with Lucasfilm Animation on the first season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and worked with Dave before that on Avatar: The Last Airbender, so they’ve been working together for quite some time.

One key element to take away from the tweet above is the “overseeing future animation development”.  It has been rumored that Rebels was always going to be a three year type of project.  This is season three, so…

Now comes the chance for lots of fan speculation, on what the next project, or projects will be…  Leave your thoughts in the comment section below!

New Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Trailer Features Thrawn

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Trailer

A new Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Trailer has been released.  This a shorter version of the trailer, but is very Thrawn-centric.  It features Thrawn giving his thoughts about the Rebels, as the screen pans over various shots from Season 3.

The new trailer also gives us new shots from the season.  Most interesting is the inclusion of Battle Droids again.  While many people can’t stand the prequels, I loved them.  This makes for an interesting addition to the Rebels world.

Check out the new trailer below!

In this preview of Star Wars Rebels Season Three, master Imperial strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn plots the destruction of the Ghost crew and the growing rebellion.

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Trailer Introduces New Villain!

Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Trailer

The Star Wars Celebration Europe Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Panel, just gave us our first look at a fan favorite villain, that many fans have been waiting forever to see!  The Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Trailer debuted and not only introduced us to Grand Admiral Thrawn, but threw tons of Easter eggs at us, as well as teased storylines for the upcoming season.

Check out the trailer below, we will of course update this article with an official version when it is available.

A few things to note about Star Wars Rebels Season 3 from the panel…

  • Kanan has a new costume, complete with beard and visor.
  • Ezra has an updated look as well with a very short haircut.
  • Grand Admiral Thrawn seems to be the main protagonist for season 3.
  • Sabine also has an updated haircut and color (yet again).
  • Zeb has a new costume, sans the shoulder guards that were on his old one.
  • Did you see the Outrider in the trailer???  Well no you didn’t.  It is a YT-2400 model ship, but not the Outrider, and no Dash Rendar for this season.
  • Darth Maul will also see his story continue in season 3, and he seems to have this deluded assumption that Ezra is his pupil.
  • Still no clear word on whether Ahsoka survived her fight with Darth Vader at the end of last season.
  • There will also be another look at the inter-workings of the Force, and how it affects the universe.
  • Dr. Who’s Tom Baker will be voicing a the character of Bendu (spelling) for season 3.
  • Maz Kanata might possibly make an appearance this season?  A fan asked if she would appear in Rebels season 3, and Dave Filoni, agreed that it was a great idea.  In fact he kept emphasizing how good of an idea it was.

This wasn’t revealed during the panel, but Lucasfilm has since released this poster for Season 3.

New Hasbro Star Wars Items on Display at SDCC

Hasbro Star Wars Items

Hasbro revealed several new items that will be on display at their booth during San Diego Comic-Con.  Most of these teases are heavy on the Star Wars Rebels theme, but there are a couple of other non-animated items in there.  Most troubling is the A-Wing with “nerf” looking missiles.  I know the line is aimed at kids, but it seems they are dumbing down things too dramatically at this point.

Check out the new Hasbro Star Wars Items on display at San Diego Comic-Con below, and get ready to pick these up for your collection this fall!

New Star Wars Rebels Leia Action Figure Revealed!

Star Wars Rebels Princess Leia Action Figure

Are you stoked about Princess Leia’s appearance in Star Wars Rebels tonight?  Wishing that Hasbro would make a Star Wars Rebels Princess Leia action figure based on her appearance in the episode?  Well fret no more!  Hasbro has got you covered with an official look at the upcoming 3 3/4″ figure!

I haven’t seen the episode yet, but I can only assume that her accessories are probably used in the episode.  Now I can hope for more characters from the show in plastic form.

Check out the official photo of the new figure, which first appeared at USA Today, below!

Appearing in her only episode of the season, the young Princess Leia is voiced by Julie Dolan, who also lent her vocal talents to the Rebel leader featured in Disney’s Star Tours attraction. Her character’s appearance in Star Wars Rebels portrays the beginnings of the seasoned general we meet again in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, her royal heritage all but eclipsed by her hard-won military stature.

In case you missed it, here is a trailer for the episode in which she appeared tonight.

Does the Star Wars Rebels Mid-Season Trailer Have a Connection to The Force Awakens?

Star Wars Rebels Mid-Season Trailer

Disney XD and Lucasfilm have released a Star Wars Rebels mid-season trailer, before the debut of the next episode Wednesday.  This trailer teases lots of exciting new adventures, characters, and dangerous situations for our band of rebel fighters.

One scene in particular may have a slight connection to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, or at least a nod to the film.  Around the 2:57 mark of the trailer, we see Ezra holding a cross-guard lightsaber, very similar to Kylo Ren’s, but green and stable.

We also see the re-introduction of classic characters such as Darth Maul (now referred to as “Old Master”), Anakin Skywalker (in a holo-vid or holocron), Yoda, and what look to be Jedi Temple Guards.  Check out the new trailer below, before I go into a theory about Ezra.

Get a glimpse of what’s to come in Star Wars Rebels Season Two in this thrilling mid-season trailer featuring Ezra, Kanan, and Ahsoka, along with returning friends and foes.

This brings up some interesting speculation, and realize before you continue on, that this is just me talking out loud and nothing official.  Could we be seeing the birth of Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars Rebels and we never even realized it?  Could Ezra Bridger be Snoke?  If so, what horrible events could have turned him into the character that he is in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?  According to a voice over in the trailer, it indicates that the dark side is strong in Ezra.  The trailer sort of leans toward Ezra having to choose between the light or the dark this season.

If it were the case, it would also make Star Wars Rebels much more important to the overall Star Wars mythology than anyone ever expected.

Season 2 of Star Wars Rebels returns this Wednesday on its new night at 9:00pm EST.

Princess Leia Making an Appearance on Star Wars Rebels!

Star Wars Rebels Princess Leia

Fans of Disney XD’s hit series Star Wars Rebels have been anticipating the day when we would see one of the three main characters from the original trilogy in the series, and now that time has come.  When Star Wars Rebels makes its highly anticipated return from the holiday hiatus on January 20, it will return with a princess in tow.

That’s right, Princess Leia Organa will be making an appearance for the first time.  Not only does it mark the character’s first appearance on the show, but the first time one of the main three (Han, Leia, or Luke) have been involved.

“One of the complex challenges of depicting Leia in Rebels is that we have to remind the audience that she is part of the Empire at this point,” says executive producer / supervising director Dave Filoni. “She doesn’t believe in the Empire, but she is acting the part, almost as a double agent. The Empire sees her as a privileged princess who runs mercy missions to wayward worlds, but in truth she is much stronger and more dangerous than they imagine.”
