Phoebe Waller-Bridge Comments on Transition of Solo Directors

Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Solo: A Star Wars Story has been anything, but a normal film production. After almost finishing principal photography directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired. Then came rumors of Alden Ehrenreich needing acting coaching, which led to fans speculating that the movie would be dead in the water.

Enter Ron Howard.

In a recent interview with IGN, Phoebe Waller-Bridge commented on the subject of Ron Howard taking over as director of her upcoming film Solo: A Star Wars Story, and how the change in directors affected the filming of her scenes.

“The handover there was done with such warmth and generosity from everybody, and Ron’s just a master at his craft; he’s going to make a beautiful film out of it,” she said of the transition between directors. “You just really trust him and it was just really exciting to work with him. I mean, it would’ve been exciting to just pass him in a corridor, let alone for him to be parachuted in to the film you’re working on.”

When asked how much of her role was reshot compared to Lord and Miller’s version of the film, Waller-Bridge said, “We’d done some really, really great stuff with Chris and Phil that everyone was really thrilled with, and I think a lot of that will still be in it.”

Does this news ease your mind about the upcoming film? Do you still think it will be a failure? Leave your thoughts below.

Christian Bale was up for “Mentor” Role in Solo: A Star Wars Story

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight

Christian Bale recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and dropped some interesting information regarding Solo: A Star Wars Story. According to the Batman Begins actor, he was up for the role of Han Solo’s mentor, which ultimately went to Woody Harrelson.

“Yes, [it was] very tempting. I not only love the films going back to my childhood but also have a very long relationship with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall because they did Empire of the Sun many years back. There was discussion, [and] I hope there will be future discussions.”

The “future discussions” he refers to could bear fruit. Christian Bale is a big fan of the Star Wars films, and admits to still having the Millennium Falcon and an AT-AT in his personal collection.

Ron Howard Post New Twitter Update for Solo: A Star Wars Story

Ron Howard

Ron Howard has given us another update for his upcoming film Solo: A Star Wars Story. This time it looks as if this might be a picture of Han Solo’s arms driving some sort of speeder. Back in September, Howard shared a black & white image of a gloved driver sitting in the cockpit of an unidentified vehicle/craft, which is similar to the one below.

If you want to get the latest news about Solo: A Star Wars Story, you can always check out our page here at OuterRimNews.com specifically for the movie.

John Williams Back for Solo: A Star Wars Story – Sort of…

John Williams Wins Grammy

It seems as if John Williams will be back for his ninth Star Wars film, although not fully composing the score. Variety is reporting that Williams will be composing the main “theme” for Solo: A Star Wars Story, but veteran composer John Powell will be doing the rest of the score.

If you recall, Powell was named the composer for the movie back in July. Out of all 10 Star Wars movies (counting Solo), the only film that Williams has not been involved in, was 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which was composed by Michael Giacchino.

“The present plan is that I’m writing a theme for Han Solo, and John Powell is going to write the score, which he’ll do brilliantly. What I will do is offer this to John, and to [director] Ron Howard, and if all parties are happy with it, then I will be happy. John [Powell] will complete the score. He will write all the rest of the themes and all of the other material, which I’m going to be very anxious to hear.”

UPDATED – FIRST LOOK: The Cast of Solo: A Star Wars Story

Solo: A Star Wars Story Logo

UPDATE – The website ScreenRant.com is reporting that Disney has told them that the image below isn’t official. Is this Disney trying to keep this under wraps for now, or is it legitimately a fan made piece of art? I guess we will find out when the promotional stuff actually starts appearing. So take the article and image below with a grain of salt for now…

We now have our first official look at Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Joonas Suotamo, and Emilia Clarke from Solo: A Star Wars Story thanks to a Russian Licensing site. Thanks to Orions Belt Creations for the heads up!

As you can see from the photo below, there is a lot of neat stuff going on. Lando appears to have a nice hairdo going on, and Han looks about like expected. The biggest reveal is that of the Millennium Falcon. If that is the Falcon in the picture then it looked a tad different in the beginning compared to where it ends up by Star Wars: A New Hope.

Enjoy!

There is also a description of the film as well. The PDF is in Russian, but a quick google translate reveals:

Solo is an exciting story about intergalactic adventures, telling the adventures of young Han Solo, about how he got into difficult situations and found an outlet from them, as he became a smuggler, a rebel, a bully, a hero, whom we all love.”

Solo: A Star Wars Story Toy Rumors

Solo: A Star Wars Story Logo

The fine folks over at YakFace have some interesting rumors about a few upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story toys. It seems that they have done a little digging and our confident that the initial The Black Series figure wave will include:

2x Han Solo
2x Imperial Range Trooper
1x Captain Lando Calrissian
1x Grand Moff Tarkin
1x Death Squad Commander (40th Anniv. repack)
1x Jawa (40th Anniv. repack)

Obviously the Death Squad Commander and the Jawa figures are re-packs, but it is interesting that Grand Moff Tarkin is in this wave. Could he be a make-up figure from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story? More than likely. I have my doubts that the dubious Han Solo would end up meeting Tarkin in this film, but stranger things have happened.

What do you think of this figure rollout? Leave your thoughts in the appropriate places.

First Look at LEGO Mini-Figure from Solo: A Star Wars Story?

A new image making the rounds on the Internet, might be our first look at a LEGO mini-figure from Solo: A Star Wars Story. When it first started appearing people weren’t sure if it belonged to this movie or from the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movie. After reaching out towards the people that would know this kind of information, it seems that this is Thandie Newton’s character in the film.

UPDATED – First Look at Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo?

Solo: A Star Wars Story Logo

UPDATE – This is apparently the work of a great Photoshopper…

Is this our first look at Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo? Twitter user Mike DeRose courtesy of Making Star Wars, shared a picture of a “movie loyalty cup” he received at Harkins Theater in Arizona. The cup features loads of upcoming Disney projects, but what we are concerned with is the young Han Solo standing side-by-side with Chewbacca. You can also see the Millennium Falcon in the background, just beyond Chewie and Gamora…
