Ron Howard Comments on the Future of ‘Solo’

Ron Howard

WARNING! SPOILERS below! If you have not seen the movie yet, DO NOT continue on! Now that the Solo: A Star Wars Story has been in release a few weeks, Ron Howard has started talking about the future of the franchise. He recently sat down with the people at Empire Magazine to discuss some of the reveals from the film, and the future of these characters in more films.

Not only does he discuss the potential of more films and even spin-offs from this one, but he talks about the references to Crimson Dawn and the other crime syndicates that are operating in this section of the official Star Wars timeline. He also talks about how the Kessel Run and the Millennium Falcon‘s escape pod were originally intended. He also talks about the appearance of a certain Sith Lord (well technically he isn’t one in this film), and more!

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Comments on Transition of Solo Directors

Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Solo: A Star Wars Story has been anything, but a normal film production. After almost finishing principal photography directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired. Then came rumors of Alden Ehrenreich needing acting coaching, which led to fans speculating that the movie would be dead in the water.

Enter Ron Howard.

In a recent interview with IGN, Phoebe Waller-Bridge commented on the subject of Ron Howard taking over as director of her upcoming film Solo: A Star Wars Story, and how the change in directors affected the filming of her scenes.

“The handover there was done with such warmth and generosity from everybody, and Ron’s just a master at his craft; he’s going to make a beautiful film out of it,” she said of the transition between directors. “You just really trust him and it was just really exciting to work with him. I mean, it would’ve been exciting to just pass him in a corridor, let alone for him to be parachuted in to the film you’re working on.”

When asked how much of her role was reshot compared to Lord and Miller’s version of the film, Waller-Bridge said, “We’d done some really, really great stuff with Chris and Phil that everyone was really thrilled with, and I think a lot of that will still be in it.”

Does this news ease your mind about the upcoming film? Do you still think it will be a failure? Leave your thoughts below.

The latest tweet features a look at the inside of a vehicles cockpit. What vehicle this is, is a mystery at this point. We do however see some familiar gloves that were used by Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Could this be Han’s first vehicle? Check out the image below and judge for yourself.

Emilia Clarke’s Character’s Name Revealed for Han Solo Film

Emilia Clarke

In a recent Vanity Fair interview with actor Michael K. Williams, Emilia Clarke’s character’s name for the Han Solo filmed was revealed.  Earlier this week, we learned that Michael K. Williams’ character from the Han Solo film had been cut from Ron Howard’s version of it.  In a recent interview with the actor, he revealed (accidentally or not), the name of Emilia Clarke’s character, which is “Kira”.

Williams had already filmed all of his scenes as a new character to the universe—“a link between Han Solo and Emilia’s character, Kira”—when Lucasfilm suddenly announced in June that it was replacing directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller with Ron Howard. The shake-up meant that Williams would need to re-shoot his scenes so that the anticipated spin-off could still meet its 2018 release date.

If you recall, Kira was the initial name for Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, via various leaks on the set.  This is most likely another case of Lucasfilm, recycling ideas from film to film.

While this isn’t much, it is nice to know that as we get closer to the May 25, release date, we are going to know more and more about this film, that is covered in a thick veil of secrecy.

Ron Howard Shares Imperial Tweet

Imperial Fleet Helmet

The latest tweet features an Imperial Fleet helmet atop of some sort of Imperial control panel.  These people were primarily stationed aboard Imperial capital ships and space stations, Imperial Fleet Regiments consisting of Imperial Navy troopers would, alongside stormtrooper regiments, handle the security aboard the ship or space station as well as assist in planetary assault missions.

Potential New Alien Revealed for Han Solo Film

Whether accidental or deliberate, the director of the upcoming Han Solo anthology film has tweeted an image from on set that appears to show a new alien.

The stocky looking creature can be seen in the top left of the tweet below with its arms folded, presumably annoyed at the large number of film crew disturbing it.

Hopefully this is one of many diverse and new creatures that will appear in the film when it hits cinemas next year.

Ron Howard is a social media machine!  Today he tweeted and posted on Instagram, new looks of the upcoming Han Solo film. First up is an Instagram post featuring a look at Lando in the cockpit of what looks to be the Millennium Falcon (look at the monitor).  It seems Lando will be sporting a bright yellow shirt, similar in style to his blue shirt from The Empire Strikes Back.

Sometime this morning Ron Howard tweeted out this photo of Chewbacca and a few crew members taking a look at a shot on camera that appears to show two characters hugging or kissing.  This is not the first official image of Chewbacca from the film (the first can be found here), but it does give us a good look at how Chewie will look in the film.

Woody Harrelson Reassures Fans that the Han Solo Film will be Fine!

Woody Harrelson Han Solo

If you were worried about the recent Han Solo director shake-up, then Woody Harrelson has some information for you!  Don’t be!  In a recent interview with UPROXX about his upcoming film War for the Planet of the Apes, the actor discusses the recent changes to the Han Solo film.

If you missed it earlier, there were a couple of leaked photo recently that Mike refers to in the second paragraph below can be found here.

Earlier on Monday I spoke to the cast of War For the Planet of the Apes at Fox’s Midtown Manhattan headquarters. We will run the full interview later this week, but during the discussion things did, briefly, veer off onto the topic of the still untitled Han Solo movie – which Apes star Woody Harrelson is very much a part of.

First of all, he had no idea a set photo had been leaked on Sunday (to the point I had to show it to him) and he did seem legitimately shocked how close up the picture is. I asked him if the announcement of a veteran director like Ron Howard can have a calming effect on a production that seems a bit, let’s say, “chaotic.”

Harrelson sat back in his chair, a smile beaming ear to ear on his face, and said, “Oh, you can relax, man – because obviously the Force is with us.” Then burst into the kind of laugh that only Woody Harrelson can do.

Later in the article, Harrelson said that he enjoyed his time working with Lord and Miller, and that the film is in “very capable hands” with Ron Howard now leading the way.

Does this make you feel better about the film, or are you still taking a wait and see approach?  As always, leave your comments in the appropriate places.

Ron Howard Announced as New Han Solo Director

Ron Howard Photo

Well that didn’t take long!  Shortly (a day) after the announcement that Lord and Miller were leaving the Han Solo production, Lucasfilm has announced a new director to helm the project.  That new director is Ron Howard!

You may know him best as Opie Taylor off of the Andy Griffith Show, or as Richie Cunningham in Happy Days, however he has had one fine career as a director.  Notable movies under his belt include Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind (winner of four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director), The Da Vinci Code, and of course Willow!

Lucasfilm is pleased to announce that Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ron Howard has been named director of the untitled Han Solo film.

“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July.”

Of course the biggest question surrounding this announcement should be, what sort of cameo will Clint Howard have in this film.

Filming on the unfinished project will resume on July 10 with more confirmation that it will retain its May 25, 2018 release date.

On a side note, who wants to bet this film gets moved back to December 2018?
