Revenge of the Sith’s Original Ending was Quite Different

The Prequels are many things to many people. Some love them, some hate them and some just do not really care. One thing for sure is that all of these groups can agree on one thing, Padmé’s death was a bit of a tame affair. After her confrontation with her beloved husband Anakin on the lava world of Mustafar, she was of course, whisked off by Obi-Wan to the medical facility on Polis Massa, where after she gave birth to Luke and Leia, lost the will to live. Death by a broken heart is the main thinking behind her untimely demise which still leaves a sour taste to many fans.

But what if she didn’t just give up, what if she tried to fight, tried to stop Anakin before he could cause any more pain to the galaxy. Well concept artist for Revenge of the Sith, Iain McCaig has shared the Revenge of the Sith’s original ending for the movie while he was speaking at an Academy of Art University event. During this talk, Iain shared a concept image of a far more confrontational meeting Padmé and Anakin had on Mustafar.

When Padmé arrived to confront her now fallen husband, instead of just crying and falling down, she would try and kill the man that was Anakin Skywalker with a knife.

With her weapon pressed to his neck, she realised that she didn’t have the heart to kill the man she had loved.

Iain goes on to say the rest of the film followed the final release’s trajectory so Padmé would still die after childbirth, but at least she went down fighting.

About Disney Tsum Tsum:

Disney Tsum Tsum is the name of a range of collectible stuffed toys based upon popular Disney characters (including characters from the Disney-owned Star Wars and Marvel franchises). The name is derived from the Japanese verb tsumu meaning “to stack”, because the toys are shaped like rectangles and designed to stack on top of each other, forming a pyramid shape.

The toys were first released in Japan in 2013 as a tie-in to the Tsum Tsum arcade and mobile games respectively developed by Konami and Line Corporation. Disney began to sell them in the United States in July 2014, and in Disneyland Paris the following month. Around the same time, Disney released Tsum Tsum to the South Korean market, giving away icons for use on online chat systems. As of 2014, 1.8 million Tsum Tsum toys have been sold.
