Screen Used TIE Helmet from A New Hope

Over the years original Star Wars film used props have become a very hot commodity. Last year Princess Leia’s “Slave” bikini sold at a Profiles In History auction for a whopping $96,000. Each time something like this pops up, the demand and price goes up as well.

This past weekend held another auction with another rare Star Wars prop – a TIE Fighter Helmet from Star Wars: A New Hope. The TIE Fighter helmet continued the trend of hot selling Star Wars movie props, and brought in $256,000!

Luke Skywalker’s Original Lightsaber is Up for Auction

Luke Skywalker's Original Lightsaber

Thanks to Profiles in History’s “Hollywood Auction 89”, Luke Skywalker’s Original Lightsaber is about to go up for auction to the public. The company is offering a variety of Hollywood props to bidders, but this particular lightsaber auction is meant to honor the sci-fi franchise’s 40th anniversary.

The original lightsaber is being auctioned off by Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz, and the piece has seen on-screen action. Mark Hamill used the prop on set in both Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

If you want to try your luck, then you will want to take out a quick loan, because this will not be cheap. The auction is scheduled to take place between June 26-28 in Los Angeles. As of this writing, the lightsaber is expected to sell for mucho dinero. Current estimates suggest the Luke’s lightsaber will sell for between $150,000 and $250,000. The last time one of Luke Skywalker’s lightsabers went up for sale, the final bid was $240,000.

Luke (or really Anakin’s) lightsaber is not the only Star Wars prop going up for auction later this month. A complete R2-D2 unit used during filming will be put up, as well as original concept art from Tom Jung will also be sold.

Hey, if you can’t afford the real thing, then you might want to give this Star Wars TFA Rey’s Electronic Lightsaber a try.  It might look good in your collection!

Princess Leia’s ‘Slave Bikini’ Sold for $96,000 at Auction

Princess Leia

Star Wars fans recognize the culture importance of the most iconic bikini in the history of mankind, and one showed just how important that bikini was to them.  The costume worn by Carrie Fisher in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, sold for an amazing $96,000 yesterday at auction.  The costume was one of the most anticipated items up for auction in the “Profiles of History” online auction.  Bidding started at $80,000 and quickly escalated.  The winner of the auction was not announced.

For the uninitiated, Princess Leia was captured by the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt, and was enslaved and forced to wear this costume.  She was seen as Jabba’s “eye candy” and chained to the villain.

The costume includes the collar and several of the chain links, as well as a letter of authenticity from Richard Miller, the designer who worked for George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic, to authentic it.

This wasn’t the most valuable Star Wars item to be auctioned Friday though.  The highest selling Star Wars article was a miniature model of Princess Leia’s “Blockade Runner” which was part of the film’s special effects. It is the first ship ever seen in a Star Wars film. The Blockade Runner set a record for the sale of any Star Wars artifact in Friday’s “Profiles of History” auction, selling for $450,000, more than double its $200,000 opening bid.

Carrie Fisher will reprise her role as Princess Leia in December’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  Who knows what item might become a cultural icon like her bikini in Return of the Jedi, but here’s to hoping that we have multiple items for fans to think fondly of for years to come!
