The crossover between a galaxy far, far away and the world’s most popular battle royale is about to reach lightspeed. While we have seen numerous collaborations, skins, and limited-time events over the years, a massive shift is occurring this week that will change how players experience the franchise forever. For the first time, official assets are being handed over to the community, meaning new Star Wars games within Fortnite are officially on the horizon.
According to a recent social media teaser (seen below) from the official Fortnite Developers account (FNCreate), the Star Wars toolset is arriving in the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) this week. This is a monumental moment for both developers and fans, as it opens the door for user-generated content that goes far beyond a simple character skin or a temporary Mythic weapon.
“That’s No Moon… It’s a Toolset”
The video featured a desktop screen showcasing iconic characters like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, before the camera zoomed into the Unreal Editor for Fortnite and launched into a hyperspace animation. The caption read: “That’s no moon… it’s a toolset?!”
This play on Obi-Wan Kenobi’s famous line from A New Hope serves as the official starting gun for creators. By bringing these assets into UEFN, Epic Games is essentially giving players the tools needed to build their own Star Wars adventures.
What Does This Mean for Star Wars Fortnite UEFN?
Up until now, Star Wars content in Fortnite has been strictly controlled by Epic Games. We’ve had the “Galactic Battle” seasons, lightsabers appearing as limited-time loot, and Imperial E-11 Blasters scattered across the island. However, once those events ended, the content usually disappeared.
By adding these assets to the Star Wars Fortnite UEFN library, those limitations are gone. Creators will now have access to:
- Iconic Characters: Using official models for heroes and villains to populate custom maps.
- Environmental Assets: Buildings, debris, and flora from planets like Tatooine, Hoth, or Endor.
- Weaponry and Mythics: For the first time, creators may be able to integrate lightsabers and Force abilities into their own custom game modes permanently.
This means we aren’t just getting one “game”, we are potentially getting thousands. From lightsaber dueling arenas and podracing circuits to full-scale recreations of the Battle of Geonosis, the possibilities for fans are limitless.
The Impact of the Disney and Epic Games Partnership
This move is the latest fruit of the massive $1.5 billion investment Disney made into Epic Games back in 2024. The goal was to create a “persistent universe” where Disney’s various brands could live inside the Fortnite ecosystem. While we have seen LEGO Star Wars content previously, this expansion into UEFN represents a much deeper level of integration.
For fans, this is the closest we may ever get to a “Star Wars Sandbox.” While official AAA titles from studios like Respawn or Ubisoft (with Star Wars Outlaws) provide polished, narrative experiences, the UEFN platform allows for “brainrot” tycoons, roleplay servers, and experimental game types that wouldn’t exist anywhere else.
When Can You Play?
The Star Wars toolset is expected to go live on Thursday, March 19, 2026, coinciding with the launch of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2. While professional developers and creative fans will likely start building immediately, it may take a few days or weeks before the most high-quality “Star Wars games” start appearing in the Discover tab.
However, given the speed of the Fortnite creative community, don’t be surprised if you find yourself defending a Rebel base by the weekend. Whether you are a hardcore developer or just one of the many fans looking for more ways to wield a lightsaber, this week marks a historic turning point for Star Wars in the digital space.
