Epic Games Unveils Massive Fortnite Star Wars Creative Assets Update in v40.00

We first reported this earlier in the week, but now the update is live! Epic Games has released the Fortnite v40.00 ecosystem update, and while the patch notes are filled with technical improvements and Verse programming updates, the absolute crown jewel of this release is the unprecedented integration of Star Wars content into Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and Fortnite Creative.

For years, Star Wars content in Fortnite was largely restricted to limited-time events or Item Shop rotations. With the v40.00 update, Epic Games is handing over the “ultimate Star Wars toolbox” to the community, allowing fans to build, publish, and share their own Star Wars-inspired experiences using official assets.

Building Your Own Galaxy

The most significant addition is the introduction of dedicated Star Wars island templates. These aren’t just empty sandboxes; they are high-fidelity environments designed to mimic the most iconic locales in the franchise. Creators can now start their projects on Tatooine-inspired desert towns, explore the volcanic cityscapes of Nevarro, or hunker down in icy Hoth-inspired bases. There is even a Space Starter Island that includes a pre-configured hyperspace effect for those looking to take their gameplay beyond the atmosphere.

To populate these worlds, Epic has included a massive library of Fortnite Star Wars Creative assets. This includes prefabs and galleries for the Death Star interior, First Order bases, Rebel Alliance outposts, and Republic encampments. Whether you are looking to recreate the tense hallways of a Star Destroyer or the dusty streets of an Outer Rim trading post, the tools are now natively available.

Playable Heroes and Iconic Weaponry

One of the most exciting new features is the Hero Device. This tool allows developers to transform players into legendary characters, complete with unique abilities. The roster includes Darth Vader, The Mandalorian, Rey Skywalker, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, and Emperor Palpatine.

Chewbacca performs a powerful Wookiee War Cry in Fortnite, emitting red sonic shockwaves that disorient nearby Stormtroopers in a desert environment.
The Hero Device in v40.00 allows fans to step into the role of Chewbacca and unleash his signature Wookiee War Cry to stun enemies.

The combat experience is also receiving a massive overhaul. The update brings over 25 iconic weapons to the Creative toolset. Fans can now equip their islands with Mandalorian Jetpacks, E-11 Blasters, and Bowcasters. Perhaps most impressively, the update introduces a deep customization system for lightsabers. Using Scene Graph and Verse, creators can now design custom lightsabers, choosing everything from the hilt style to the blade color.

Furthermore, Force powers are no longer strictly tied to lightsabers. This change allows for much more flexible gameplay design, enabling creators to assign powers like Force Heal, Mind Trick, or protective barriers to any player or class, regardless of their loadout.

Vehicles and Immersion

The battlefield isn’t just limited to infantry. The v40.00 update brings iconic vehicles into the Creative ecosystem, including the N-1 Starfighter, X-wings, and TIE fighters. These ships have been updated from their Battle Royale counterparts to include secondary fire options, making dogfights more dynamic than ever. On the ground, the AAT (Armored Assault Tank) is available to provide heavy fire support.

To round out the immersion, Epic has added character-themed dialogue for hirable guards. If you hire a Stormtrooper or a Rebel soldier on your island, they will now feature unique hire and dismiss dialogue that fits the Star Wars universe.

Release Date

This update represents the largest IP toolset ever delivered to the Fortnite creator community. While building can start immediately, Epic Games has noted that Star Wars-inspired islands can officially be published through the Creator Portal starting May 1, 2026, just in time for the annual May the 4th celebrations.

For Star Wars fans and Fortnite creators alike, the v40.00 update is a literal game-changer. By moving these assets from “temporary guest stars” to “permanent building blocks,” Epic Games is ensuring that the legacy of the Star Wars universe will continue to grow within the Fortnite metaverse for years to come.

The question is… What are you going to create with these new Fortnite Star Wars creative assets? Let us know what you are going to do, or hope to see from this in Fortnite going forward.
