Fans wanting to experience a new immersive experience set in a galaxy far far away are in luck as on Thursday, Disney announced a new Star Wars virtual reality attraction. Titled “Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire” and developed by “The Void”, it will be featured at Downtown Disney, at Disneyland Resort, and the Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort.
The experience will use VR in conjunction with real life architecture to make the game feel real: for example, reaching out to touch what looks like a wall in the game will cause you to touch a wall in real life. The press release by The Void features comments by the company’s co-founder, which hint at the experience using sound, touch, smell and feeling (the company’s previous work, a Ghostbusters experience, uses fans to create wind).
Though there’s not much other concrete information about what it will entail apart from the image above, The Void’s previous work shows there’s reason to be excited about this new attraction.
About The Void:
It’s hyper-reality. It’s technical achievement. But mainly, it’s fun! THE VOID is a whole-body, fully immersive VR experience, full of surprises at every turn; with you, your family and friends inside the action. One second you’re standing on solid ground, the next you’re stepping deep into darkness, looking at unimaginable beauty – or fending off danger from another realm. Did you see it? Did you feel it? What’s next? You’ll just have to experience it to understand.
