Maul: Shadow Lord Season 1 Finale Preview Teases All-Out War and Season 2 Update

Darth Maul and a Twi'lek ally engage in a high-stakes lightsaber duel against an Imperial Inquisitor in the Maul: Shadow Lord Season 1 Finale.

As Disney Plus prepares for its massive May the Fourth celebrations, all eyes are on the climactic conclusion of the latest animated hit. A brand-new preview for the two-episode Maul: Shadow Lord Season 1 finale has arrived, promising a high-stakes confrontation that fans have been anticipating since the series premiere.

The upcoming finale looks to be a massive departure from the smaller-scale heists seen earlier in the year. The new footage showcases Maul leading his Shadow Collective into a direct collision course with the Galactic Empire. However, he isn’t fighting alone.

An Unlikely Alliance for the Finale

SPOILERS are ahead! If you don’t want to know anything do NOT continue to read.

The Maul: Shadow Lord Season 1 finale preview highlights the motley crew Maul has assembled throughout his journey. In a rare “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” scenario, the former Sith Lord is seen fighting alongside two wandering Jedi Knights, a rival crime boss, and a former police captain.

The action-packed clip, originally shared via Rotten Tomatoes, clocks in at just under a minute but packs a significant punch. It features Maul and his temporary allies fending off waves of Stormtroopers and the relentless Inquisitors. The animation quality appears to be at a series high, capturing the fluid, aggressive lightsaber combat that has become a trademark of Maul’s character since his resurrection in The Clone Wars.

Sam Witwer Teases Season 2

While the immediate focus is on the conclusion of the current story, voice actor and consulting producer Sam Witwer is already looking toward the future. Speaking recently with The Direct, Witwer addressed the status of the next chapter of the saga.

According to Witwer, fans won’t have to endure a grueling hiatus. “It’s the usual development cycle,” Witwer explained. He noted that while he is forbidden from revealing specific dates, the team has been working on the next set of episodes for quite some time. “I know when it’s coming out, but it’s not a situation where the audiences will have to wait too long.”

Based on previous production cycles for shows like The Bad Batch, industry insiders suggest a return in roughly one year is a safe bet for fans of the series.

Living Up to Fan Expectations

The success of Shadow Lord has been a welcome surprise for the creative team. Witwer admitted that while he had faith in the project, the “hardcore” passion from fans has been overwhelming. This reception has fueled a renewed sense of responsibility among the creators to deliver the best possible version of Maul’s story.

“I’m a Star Wars fan, so I would like to see it continue,” Witwer said, emphasizing that the team feels a “tremendous responsibility” to keep the momentum going. He described the pressure as the kind you ask for in the entertainment business—the chance to contribute to a “modern myth.”

How to Watch the Finale

The final two episodes of the Maul: Shadow Lord Season 1 finale are scheduled to drop on Disney Plus on May 4th. This double-header serves as the centerpiece for this year’s “Star Wars Day” festivities. Given the inclusion of Inquisitors and the brewing war between the Empire and the criminal underworld, the finale is expected to have major implications for the broader Star Wars timeline.

Whether Maul can truly maintain control over his Shadow Collective or if the Empire’s might will finally crush his ambitions remains to be seen. One thing is certain: the fans are ready for war.
