Oga’s Cantina Refurbishment: Disney Erases Galactic Starcruiser Connection

Oga's Cantina

As Star Wars fans prepare for the massive timeline shift coming to Galaxy’s Edge, the most popular watering hole in the parsec is already showing signs of the changing eras. According to WMWNT, Oga’s Cantina at Disneyland has officially reopened following a multi-month refurbishment, and with its return comes a quiet but significant scrubbing of its connection to a defunct piece of Disney history.

While the physical space remains largely the same, the story unfolding within the walls of Black Spire Outpost is shifting backward in time.

The Removal of the Galactic Starcruiser Reference

For years, a small notice board near the entrance of Oga’s Cantina featured a collection of messages written in Aurebesh. One of these messages served as a direct nod to the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a two-night immersive experience at Walt Disney World that permanently closed in 2023.

The original message read:

“Mechanic Wanted! Experience with Chandrilan class 1 starships required. Ability to speak Shyriiwook a plus. Contact Captain R. Keevan of the Halcyon, CSL.”

Captain Keevan and the Halcyon were the heart of the Starcruiser’s narrative. Following the recent refurbishment, this flyer has been removed. In its place, a new message better aligns with the broader Star Wars timeline:

“Make Some Quick Credits! Sell your Surplus! Imperial, Rebel, Republic, or Separatist – Black Spire Outpost will buy it all!”

By referencing the Empire, the Rebellion, and even the Separatists, the new sign supports the upcoming transition where the land will no longer be strictly locked into the sequel trilogy era.

DJ R-3X and the Timeline Shift

The changes aren’t just visual. The beloved droid DJ R-3X (formerly RX-24 from Star Tours) has also undergone a “reprogramming.” According to reports from the reopening, several of R-3X’s dialogue lines that specifically referenced the First Order and the Resistance have been silenced.

This is part of a larger strategy by Disney to “unlock” the timeline at Disneyland’s version of the land. Starting April 29, 2026, guests will begin to see characters from across the saga, including Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Darth Vader. To make this work narratively, Oga’s Cantina is now being framed as a location that “recently opened” during the era of the Galactic Civil War.

What’s New (and What’s the Same) inside Oga’s Cantina

Beyond the lore updates, the refurbishment focused heavily on maintenance. The drainage systems were updated, and several pieces of furniture, including the booths and tables, were replaced with fresh versions that maintain their original “lived-in” aesthetic.

Fans of the cantina’s menu will find that their favorite concoctions remain. The Fuzzy Tauntaun, Jedi Mind Trick, and Blue Bantha continue to be staples for travelers looking to escape the heat of the Twin Suns. While the land’s transition to a multi-era “Greatest Hits” format has sparked debate among some Star Wars fans who appreciated the strict immersion of the original 34 ABY setting, the crowds returning to the cantina suggest that the demand for a drink at Oga’s remains as high as ever.

The timeline shift is currently exclusive to Disneyland Park. At this time, Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida is expected to maintain its current sequel-era storyline, though many wonder if the East Coast will eventually follow suit.
