Forces of Destiny

Unused Star Wars Forces of Destiny Concept Art

Concept art is always a double-edged sword.  On one hand it shows how everything could have gone terribly wrong, but on the other it shows how everything could have been better.  For example comic book artist extraordinaire Ken Lashley, posted some conceptual art he did for Star Wars Forces of Destiny, on his Facebook page.

Before the show had it’s official “I’s” dotted and “T’s” crossed, Ken was one of the artists contacted by Hasbro to do some designs for the company.  Ken posted a few sketches he did for Hasbro, so I reached out to him to get a better understanding of how this process comes together.

“Well, it’s about the feel. Early development work is for all aspects.  There was already some work in place.  After concept work is submitted, then all the teams take a look and see where it’s at.  l do lots of these gigs and it’s all behind the scenes work.  For this project my work was very well received by Hasbro.

Basically, while the final look of these characters was not my art, my work was part of the overall look that helped shape them into the final versions.”

Check out the gallery below for a look at some fascinating artwork by Ken Lashley, that shows part of the origins of the characters in the series.
