Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. (Yoda)

One of the greatest aspects of the Star Wars Universe is the diversity that it brings to all. Star Wars is at best a story that defies all, it is a tale told from an underdogs perspective. We must all remember that heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes they are not what they seem to be. When I first saw Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, I was 10 years old and I must say that I never really cared for the Ewoks much, however the Droids like C-3PO and R2-D2 as well as the Jawas, always held a great fascination for me.  Even as a 10 year old boy, I believed  that there was no way those little fur balls could beat the likes of Imperial Stormtroopers, and yet the triumphed with primitive weapons like rocks, logs and rope…

Well, short help is better than no help at all.  (Han Solo)

Although I can remember not really liking the Ewoks that much, it did not stop me from watching the 1984 release of the movie The Ewok Adventure about 100 times. I can remember my parents recoding it to a VHS tape back in the day. Still, we all have to admit the Star Wars universe would simply not be the same without the little guys in the films. This can be said not just about the Ewoks but all the underdogs of the galaxy.

The Star Wars droids have become a massive part of the universe and probably today are almost more widely recognized than all the main characters themselves in some regards. The droids like R2-D2 and C-3PO have become household names, and more than anything capture the imagination of children the world over, and adults alike. The droids have done quite well in terms of their own brand, with countless forms of merchandising and television shows like the new LEGO Droid Tales.

I myself have always been a big fan of the disgusting creatures known as Jawas. Known for there  shady at best, business practices and rumored to be the distant relative to the Sandpeople (Kumumgah), Jawas really are not much of a hero, but never the less, I wanted to mention them in this article simply because by nature their character and antics complete Star Wars and its unique identity.

We seem to be made to suffer. It’s our lot in life. (C3PO)

Bottom line,  Star Wars is not about who is the best warrior, or who is the most powerful. It is about the underdog, the one that stands up to defend their home against nearly impossible odds, or the one that helps the crusade without even picking up a weapon. As we look ahead at the new films coming out, there is no doubt that we will see many more of the unsung hero’s that make the Star Wars Universe great, like the droids, Ewoks,  Jawas, and perhaps a yet to be revealed species. One new Internet sensation right now is BB-8 the rollerball droid we see in The Force Awakens. One thing is for sure it will be interesting watching him and R2-D2 fight over attention.
