Gentle Giant Maz Kanata Bust

Sometimes it’s fun to look at the original sculpts of some of your favorite Star Wars collectibles.  It gives you an idea of what goes into making these things that we as collectors hold dear.  Recently the sculptor of the Gentle Giant Maz Kanata Bust, Keith Kopinski, released his digital sculpt photos for the piece.

As you can see in the gallery below, he also included the Premium Guild version with Maz holding Anakin’s lightsaber.  Gentle Giant gave Keith 3 weeks to go from concept to fully detailed original sculpt, and as always Kopinski finished up a few days before the deadline.

So take a few minutes to pour over the fantastic detail and eye for realism in the 3D digital sculpt photos below!

I sculpted this bust for the fine folks at Gentle Giant for their Star Wars line. I got the okay to share these. I hope you all like her. Art Direction by the always eagle-eyed Aaron White.

The mysterious pirate queen Maz Kanata has been part of the galactic smuggling scene for hundreds of years. Hundreds of years before the rise of the First Order, Maz had been already travelling the galaxy while understanding her own sensitivity to The Force. Gentle Giant LTD is proud to present the Star Wars Maz Kanata Mini Bust! This amazingly detailed mini bust has been digitally sculpted using top of the line 3D software, prototyped using 3D Systems industrial 3D printers. The final product is hand cast in polystone, and painstakingly hand painted so that no detail from Star Wars: The Force Awakens is missed. Ages 14 and up.

A Star Wars fan since 1978, he has a passion for all things Star Wars and wonders why May the 4th is not a national holiday. He lives in the wastelands of middle Georgia with his wife, two girls, and two dogs.

Official Photos of the Gentle Giant Early Bird 4-Pack Jumbo Set

For those old enough to remember Kenner’s classic Early Bird 4-pack set, this new Early Bird 4-Pack Jumbo Set from Gentle Giant might be an awesome thing to own!  Gentle Giant just released official images of their upcoming set, which features jumbo versions of the classic Kenner figures Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2-D2, and Chewbacca.

The figures come in a replica (only jumbo sized) of the Kenner set.  This one will set you back about $279.00 for a Q4 2017 release date.  Check out the official images and solicitation information below!

40 years ago a generation of kids saw a movie that changed their lives. When they left the theater and went to the store to find action figures from their favorite new movie they did not exist. When the holidays rolled around and the kids wanted to find their favorite heroes, villains and droids under the tree, none could be found. The toy makers solution to this problem was “The Star Wars Early Bird Kit.” Parents, desperate for anything Star Wars to wrap for their kids, were sold a large cardboard envelope that had a fold out stand, some stickers, trading cards and a promise that WHEN the figures were made, they would be the first kids to receive them. Gentle Giant Ltd pays tribute to that classic Star Wars story 40 years later with the Star Wars JUMBO Early Bird 4-pack. This 4 pack of action figure is a great jumping on point to the Jumbo line for new collectors as well as bringing back some earlier, harder to find figures for current Jumbo connoisseurs. The Early Bird Jumbo figure 4-pack will come in a retro box mimicking the original Early Bird envelope, inside will be the familiar white mailer tray with Luke Skywalker (with his double telescoping lightsaber. The first DT saber in the Jumbo line!), Princess Leia (with white vinyl cape and blue blaster) Chewbacca (with greenish Early Bird crossbow blaster) and R2-D2 (with clicking head). Also included in the set will be larger reproductions of the stickers and a large foldout, replica display stand that will hold the “original 12” figures along with the perforated cards attached to the front. Gentle Giant Ltd’s Jumbo line. Just like you remember, ONLY BIGGER!

The bounty hunter known as Bossk has been a fan favorite ever since his debut in 1980. His popularity could not be contained to his brief appearance on the deck of the Executor in the Empire Strikes Back (and in the background of Jabba’s sail barge in Return of the Jedi). Bossk soon started filling out his robust backstory in both the Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels animated series, taking on the role of mentor to the young, orphaned Boba Fett. The artists a Gentle Giant take you on a journey to see the moments just following the events of the death of Jabba, we find Bossk standing over the shattered throne of Jabba. At his feet, a chain left by Jabba’s escaped prize. What will he do next? Pursue the rebels or look for his next bounty? Bossk is the third statue in our new 1:8th Collector’s Gallery line, celebrating 40 years of the Star Wars universe. Each limited edition, hand-painted piece is cast in high quality polyresin with crisp details. This statue also comes individually numbered with a matching certificate of authenticity.

About Bossk:

One of the most feared bounty hunters of the galaxy, Bossk used his natural Trandoshan hunting instincts to capture his prey. During the Clone Wars, the red-eyed reptilian partnered with Aurra Sing, Castas and young Boba Fett. Bossk didn’t care much for vendettas or politics. He was in it to get paid. After a brief stint in a Republic prison, Bossk continued his partnership with Fett, becoming a bodyguard to the teen bounty hunter. Decades later, Bossk answered Darth Vader’s call to capture the Millennium Falcon after the Battle of Hoth, an assignment that put him in direct competition with Boba.
